What's that? About 3.6% pa? Probably a bit expensive for that size of debt, if it's not fixed. But prime London property? Why would you want to amortise debt on that?
I was just about to post the same, I've financied several of that level and that's way above what I would expect for a variable. Presume it's fixed?

Would be interested to know what banks you have seen active at this level, pm me if you'd rather. And feel free to tell me to do one.

Re: The Amortisation, at that level why wouldn't you pay down? You would need a 7.2% return to beat it. (presuming the mortgagee is a 50% tax payer. That said, we do interest only mainly to provide flexibility and the reduction is likely to be annually.

LTV of 50% so it's not like they have no cash.

It's unusual to have a loan of that size to individuals. Most are done via offshore companies.

Ok it might be in Barnstaple but for only £350,000 you'd be hard pressed to find another house with so much originality and character. Grade 1 listed formerly part of a Benedictine Priory.

Absolutely nowhere to park though!

Love it. I'd keep the interior just like it is.

On the other end of the scale, I hate the interior on this one. But it stands well in the grounds IMO.

Wow why is that so cheap. Its in a great part of the country as well.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

its even got a little stream. Want it

no garage but a large area for cars not sure if its listed status would stop you getting permission to build a garage on it.

Just catching up with the thread after a few weeks overseas. I like this.

I saw the comments about colour of the kitchen - which I actually don't mind - but anything else seem wrong with it? It's been on the market for a year, and the asking has dropped from 795k over that time. Anyone know the area or of any down-sides?

It looks like it's worth a viewing. I'll update if I get to see it, but would appreciate any local info in the meantime if there is any.

That still on the market?!? It was on here around a year ago. It used to be offices about 20 years ago. I worked there, my office was up those stairs in the grand hall. smile Lovely place.

i'd imagine you would have no choice but to keep the interior, and exterior of the barnstaple house as it is. Sounds like a bind to me, characterful or not. You have to live in it!!
