If it was my pub and I was in the mood to be a stubborn git then I wouldn't sell it and just continue to use the accommodation part to live in.
How much would it cost to keep the pub close? Do you have to pay business taxes e.t.c?

On another note, something I would be careful of is that a lot of pubs are obviously old & some may have been built pacifically as a pub.
He'll just have to ride the waves of this one and see what the tide brings in.
With so many pubs closing , to lose another would just be a drop in the ocean

Hi Guys

If you are buying a pub, or are thinking about it, there is such a form as a VAT 1614D form which can be found on the HMRC website. If you fill this form in BEFORE agreeing contracts etc then you can disapply for the VAT to be charged, meaning a much cheaper purchase.

I think you get 6 months max business rate relief if a property is empty. Its up to the discretion of the local authority so can differ depeneding on where you are.

Mind you, the rateable value on pubs is worked out on receipts of food/beer/wine, etc, so after a few years you can say its worth F*ck all !!
