Bi-folding doors - Any Recommendations?
Discussion
I match your 4 metre door and raise you 4 more !
Used the sliding folding door company.
Price-wise they were definitely at the lower end of what was available. Ordering was a bit of a pain as you seem to fill in loads of bits of paper which simply repeat what you've already filled in, especially when you're ordering 5 sets !
Finish is good, had ours matched to a RAL colour code. Quality-wise they aren't as good as some of the other people out there. Handles are held in by self tapping screws which work loose, the track runners etc are only just up to the job, sealing strips come away etc. I've had to strip one of the doors down to repair a couple of the lower runners already and they seem to keep going out of adjustment, probably because the fittings are only just up the job.
Fitting the top track rail is a bit of a game as you need really small headed bolts (from memory) to fit into the steel beam above. I know we ended up having to make some fittings and I would have thought they would have been able to supply something for the job.
If I was fitting a single set in my house I'd probably look to spend a bit more money and get a better engineered system, the problem in this instance is that an extra couple of thousand pre set of doors is ten grand on the job.
Hope that helps.
Henry

Have you considered just sliding? I was in same position as you a few months ago, and got quotes from the same and some other companies. Eventually looked at sliding and the costs tumble. Now have a three-track aluminium sliding system for a 6m opening. Each of the six doors is just under a metre wide, and they can be opened in any configuration (all to left or right, or centre opened) and as it's three-track, they almost completely overlap when opened, so I get an almost 4m clear air opening. They will be less prone to juddery opening than folding doors. As there's less structural requirement, the profile is narrower than folding doors so I get a less obstructed view of the garden (and the profile on mine are rounded like the edge of an aeroplane wing, which is much nicer than box section).
Here's a photo...
... that's not condensation by the way - ealy morning dew on the outside! Poor choice of piccy perhaps!

I just swapped my electric garage door for 4.4m aluminium bi folds.Bloody mice kept chewing the rubber bit at the bottom and getting in.They then tried nesting in my Car!They eat the plastic window washer bottle cap.Problem solved.
I didnt go low threashold though as I am tiling the floor and needed the height.
Best thing I did.
I think many aluminium products are similar. Its the fitters that you need to choose carefully. Many companies use the same system/ supplier.
My windows came from a company called Affordable Windows systems LTD in Lancashire.I fitted them my self and I am very happy with them.I wont name the company I ordered from through as I had problems, not with the bifolds though.

I know the garage door was electric but I never used to drive up and into the Garage.I have to push the car in anyway as the car doors have to open wide to get in .Only pain is I will have to raise the paving on the outside so the threshold is flush. It will be flush inside by the time I tile the floor.
