Worked with a great garden designer up in Glasgow called Anne Macfie when I built our new home: (www.annemacfiegardendesign.co.uk). Decided on a more 'contemporary' garden design - probably not to everyone's taste, but we love it.
We went for raised walkways, a patio and composite black decking so that we can use the garden more of the year without having to wade through puddles (we're in sunny Scotland after all) hehe
These photos were taken last year just after planting - the plants have gone mad since and filled in most of the 'gaps'

That is superb. Well done to you, Sir.

Agreed - this is a superb garden!

I'll take a pic of mine later - one hell of a project required....but I've only had it a couple of weeks!

Two weeks!! Just because they can assemble a garden for Chelsea in that time does't mean it comes cheap or it has been designed for the long term.

A good garden takes a few years to mature. Choose the wrong plants and you will have to rip them out when they take over.

Having just bought a new build with a fair sized, blank-canvas garden, this thread is superbsmile

Thanks for the kind comments!

If you want to check out how it was started (plus lots of shots of the rest of the garden) you can click here - pretty photo heavy, so a sure cure for insomnia hehe

I like that composite balck decking!! I presume it is plastic, but it looks dead smart. Looking to do a deck area at the moment to house a wrought iron dining set, so the black will go nicely I reckon.....

I believe he is saying his garden requires a huge project and that he he's only owned it a few weeks, hence has not had chance to start it yet.

what type of decking is it??
I haven't seen that before where would you buy it from?

It would be ideal for my garden.

Hi folks!

The composite decking is a mix between (recycled?) plastic and wood… it's Twinson decking from Deceuninck comes in a variety of colours, but the black (liquorice) fitted in perfectly with our design. I think B&Q are now doing their own version of it too. It's miles easier to look after than wooden decking - basically give it a jet wash every 12-18 months and it looks as good as new. Much less slippy than wood (especially when wet).

Garden cost was absorbed in the overall house build and the landscapers did all the monoblocking, pathways, external walls, rendering and planting - I think we got a goof deal of work for the cash involved wink

Oops, my mistake! That's what comes from trying to read threads while doing other things.

Its spot on, good useable grass area and good space for the table. Shed for the man jobs too.

^ I like it to. It's got green parts. I like to see a bit of nature in a garden.

The garden in spring. If you look carefully you can still see the remains of the November 5th bonfire we had...
