Hi all, SWMBO put some bleach into the shower and went to work. When we got home the waste now has taken on some sort of copper effect - which is in reality the chrome being taken off.....

Now, much as I like the copper look it doesnt look right!

So, any chance of reversing this, I doubt it, as rubbing it with some Jif and a toothbrush looks like it is taking it back to plastic - so I assume the waste is chrome effect over plastic rather than solid.

Failing reversing the process does anybody know if there is a product that I can use to 'rechrome' the waste, maybe paint or similar?

Now before you ask, the shower is fitted and I cant see anyway of getting the waste out to replace it without getting underneath the shower base and I cant see anyway of doing this....

thanks

Not an expert on electoplating but I believe copper is one of the intermediate coatings they apply to allow the chrome outer plating to adhere. Saw this being done to a zinc hand dryer cover.

Think you are stuffed I'm afraid.

I would just get a small tin of Humbrol silver modelling paint, and paint it with a small modelling brush......Not ideal, but it will look OK....(Shake the tin well)

You'd need some serious chemicals and lots of volts to do chrome plating (you could take it to a platers of course).

If that's too much you could try an aerosol paint, some of which give an almost-chrome look.

Does the waste have a screw or slots in the middle?
