I have recently discovered screwfix. Good prices and convenient if local (7 days a week)

It's like a cross between Argos and B&Q

Screwfix are fine and have more choice than b&q.
Think they might be part of the same group. Also fast delivery too.

LOL.
The people who started Toolstation also set up and used to own Screwfix but sold it to B&Q (group), who have set about ruining what made it good. Surely you've noticed most of the Screwfix/B&Q stuff/offers are the same?

Toolstation may not have as many product lines, but they do have a online stock checker, thats saved me a few wasted 8 mile round trips

Crown decorator Centres
Dulux Decorator Centres

etc, etc..

If you get the same prices as me though, I'll give up and go on the dole.

Screwfix
Travis trade card
Jewson trade card

That's all you need, no difficulty getting a card, and don't ever accept the first price they give, just say 'X' can do it for £Y and they'll try and match at least.

I've saved £000s on my extension by shopping around and getting quotes.

Screwfix are good for some stuff, and their free 24hr delivery is a boon, but as has been said now they're part of B&Q they're not what they once were. Also odd that in some ranges they have oodles of different options, in others they have only one or two, so inevitably good for some things, not so good for others.

Or you could try your local independant who actually know what stuff is and where to get the bits you need that aren't in the catalogue.

Agreed. It's not a patch on what it used to be.

I'd find out what you've got in the way of trade counters lurking in your local industrial estates. For electrical stuff my local TLC (http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk) makes Screwfix look overpriced and understocked.

Yes, this.

They are cheap on some stuff, but don't assume they are cheaper on everything.

Stax at Walkden. You have to prove you are a trader, but i just produced a letterhead. Not sure how strict they are nowadays.

Glyn Webb might be worth a try. Have not used them for a few years but they used to get a lot of clearance stock at good prices.

Looking at some of their prices they arent on the money.

I looked at a 20lt emulsion tin online at screwfix and it came in at £39 whereas its £15 for a 10lt dulux tub in B&Q confused

Its floorpaint that I really need to focus on- Screwfix have slate, red and green, but I need white and chocolate (really dark brown) for two rooms

One should always negotiate a true TRADE price, and not accept the first price offered.

You'll be disappointed at my place of work. We don't have time to piss about giving high prices to knock a couple of pence off because somebody with no stock can do it two pence cheaper in two weeks when their stock appears.

We give our best price first time, every time.

If somebody can beat us, fine, we'll be busy with the next order thank you very much.

We were doing next day deliveries before the ad-men at who-ever were born.

We're professionals, not accountants.

No point in buying it 2p cheaper a bag if you cant work for two days because you've not got the product.

We take 600+ calls a day between six of us, there are call-centres who'd dream about getting that number of calls. And we give free advice, and we have the best reputation in our area.

So there.

Worcs is a bit of a drag for us, although we're in Brum every week. The extra haulage might kill it for you, unfortunately. Depends which bit of Worcs you're in, because we do run from Hartlebury from time to time.

Nottingham, big green trucks (29 of 'em out every day). Can't really say much more due to the advertising thing on PH.
