DFS Sofas - any good?
Discussion
Won't buy DFS again, current sofa was broken by a small 5 year old climbing over the top of it, the wood snapped. Took it apart to repair it and was amazed as how crap they are inside, very cheap and thin wood, nails, staples etc. Seems to be better about for the same money.

We had the same on an SCS corner sofa about 10yrs ago now.
The corner section which was never sat on unless we had company round (less than once a fortnight) collapsed from the same shoddy build quality.
It was about 3yrs old at the time, I contacts SCS about it not being suitable for the needs it was designed or sold (ie fit for purpose) and not of merchantable quality.
They offered to repair which was a bodge job (they couldn’t do much else in fairness to the unlucky guy that got it on his works order so I raised it to the ombudsman and then sent them a court claim - they quickly refunded on the whole purchase order price.
Sadly most of the furniture stores are just the same with marginal price differences meaning zero difference in quality.
In the end we bought a leather 3 seater and love seat from the USA while we were on holiday and imported it ourselves - it’s been awesome and very hard wearing plus it was barely more expensive even after purchase, shipping, duty, vat and tax

I've had a 2 seater and a 3 seater in brown leather, both from DFS. The bit I spend most of my day on had sagged a lot, so cut a hole and blew in a load of crumbed foam, then had it stitched. You wouldn't know the difference now.
I was a leather buff at the time (buying leather for a Mk2 golf re-trim), so argued about the price and even managed to get 10% off the SALE SALE SALE price by beating the sales guy into the ground (he had to ring Head Office every time I asked a question about the leather) - still very happy with the sofas.
An unusual review I'm sure, but maybe I just picked the right one or something...

I have never owned anything from DFS (yet) but the chair I am currently sitting in is a 15yr old American made 'Lazy boy' and it is still going strong. No rips or tears or any noticeable wear really and the mechanism is as good as it was when new.
It was £1100 reduced to £350 (in a proper closing down sale) so It has cost about £2 a month so far, Its weird when you break things down like that!

my first sofa and chairs I did scrap after 15 years, but then they were 70 years old when I 'acquired' them...
my current sofa came from a friend down-sizing from the local manor house, the armchairs were within the family...
what is this idea of buying from a shop?!
Have had a few sofas over the last decade:
DFS : Were cheap and 'ok' looked pretty good and were actually quite comfortable, developed lots of creaking and the fillings went flat. For the money though...... I would like to think i wouldn't have to buy another though.
Furniture village: Really good actually, had a corner sofa which iirc was around £1500 (fabric). When we got rid of it after 7 years it was still in excellent condition, it was easily washable and had been in situ with lots of building work, lots of people, tools, materials all over it. Or dog did eat some of the base cushion filling i gaffer tapped it back up and when the covers went on it was fine.
Dansk. Was an ex display and brand new would have been about 6k. Its ok. not great, had to have someone out to repair some of the sagging filling after about a year. It is nicely made but I'm not sure it would ever be 6k worth.
Furniture village: just got a coupe of the fabric chesterfields and they are lovely, really nicely made, hardwood frames, marks come off easy and are really comfy.
I really like furniture village, they seem like a halfway house between cheap crap and expensive 'designer' stuff. Reasonable money.
