On the roof of a care home that's a client of mine - I was so impressed I took a photo. Had to have its GRP fakeness pointed out to me.

How'd they fare in a windy storm?

Well it's still there.
If you look closely you can see a metal rod to the left bracing it (like the real thing).

Yeah yeah... holy thread resurrection and all that...

Anyway, my house has no chimney and we want to install a log stove in the lounge.
We could get planning to build a brick one, but it wouldn't be in the correct place for where we want the fire inside.

I know we can run a flue through the house and out the roof but I don't want a bloody pipe sticking out.

Is it possible to make a false chimney to cover the flue pipe?

I was thinking (very roughly!) of marine ply, brick slips etc.
Yes, cement board though.

Yes full marks, there was a horizontal wire/rod behind that you can just see.

I imagine the brick slip ones fare better but the GRP ones around us tend to fade to pink after a few years. I don't imagine being on the coast helps.

We have one on our house, didn't bother me until I started thinking about maybe putting a log burner in. The house will look daft with a fake chimney and a black flue up the side.

But then I don't spend hours looking at my house, so maybe I should just enjoy life.

The developer was told to put some on houses on our estate, "to add character".

They do look ridiculous when you're aware they aren't real but 99% of people will never notice. Our council insisted on Wilsons fitting details on the new estate in the village and I think its the better for it. Certainly better than old estates where everything is a carbon copy of the house next door.

Haha, that's not the only problem, it appears to be falling apart underneath the guttering

I see these on the back of small trucks regular, because there's a small business making them near here.... Andover in Hants.
