Fingers crossed please

Just not fair
They should swab the wound tomorrow, just to check nothing else casuing the breakdown. At one point Lucy got MRSA but it was quickly treated with Clindamycin, scary moment though.
I'm so sorry for what you are both going through, still keeping my fingers crossed and still believe he'll be good in the end.

Thanks Bex, I'm certain the wound has broken down because of the tail stump causing too much pressure on it. Only half of the wound has broken down, the other side has healed but has no pressure on it.
There is no obvious tissue breakdown as such, just that the suture line has opened. The wound looks very healthy despite the stump continually being covered in fluff/ fur. I am trying my hardest to keep it clean and covered. He is being a brilliant patient.
I'm certain we will get there too but it's just being such a struggle.

He has been back to the vets today, visibly shaking in the consulting room we've got to go back on Tuesday to have more surgery to remove his tail stump and have his wound sutured again. I'm really hoping this is the last time.
Oh dear, I'm so sorry, you and poor Jenson are going through such a tough time. I really feel for you, it's such a worry. Lets hope they get it all sorted this time. I feel the worry for you as Im sure Ali Kat and many others on here do. All paws and fingers still firmly crossed.Simpo Two said:
Just picking up this thread after a while off.
Do you feel your vets are being 100% competent? Cats can only take so much of a beating.
Having been through similar with my own cat I can honestly say the vets seem to have so far done everything right. Half of the injury has healed. The other half will as long as it stays infection free and they can ensure a blood supply.Do you feel your vets are being 100% competent? Cats can only take so much of a beating.
Jenson appears to be in good spirits from Karens updates so he can certainly take more.
Not the time to talk of quitting yet. Took my Lucy over 3 months to heal and a further several months to fully recover but she's good now

I have absolute faith in my vets, they have answered every question with confidence and been at the end of the phone no matter what time of day or night I've needed them. They are playing around with the bill to enable me to afford his treatment now that we have exceeded his insurance limit and are doing every thing they can to get this wound healed.Do you feel your vets are being 100% competent? I have asked myself every day if I am doing the right thing for Jenson but when he is eating, drinking, playing and purring away, it is difficult to accept that it's too much for him.
He has become terrified of the vets which is understandable but when his favourite vet and vet nurse walks into the room, he lays on his back expecting tummy tickles and chin rubs.
The stump has been removed as it is causing too much pressure on the wound, preventing it from healing and I think because he initially had some wounds around that area, there is a degree of tissue loss.
He is back from the vets, has demanded to be fed and is now sitting quietly. He seems happy in himself and just needs to laze around now to allow this wound to heal. 1/3 of the wound has healed, we just need to get the other 2/3 to heal.
Thanks for all your thoughts and advice, we really appreciate it
Thank you for all thinking of us, Jenson is doing well but I refuse to say he's healing. I have gotten my hopes up too often but at present his wound remains closed and dry.
He is so bored and fed up, can't wait to be able to let him out of his prison (lounge) and to give him the run of the house. I don't want to do this until his sutures are out as he has been known to break out of the catflap and I can't risk that at the moment. The vet is planning on keeping the sutures insitu for three weeks and then sedate him to remove the sutures.
He is losing lots of fur from his back but the vet isn't worried about that and appears very bruised from his last operation but that is now resolving.
Overall, things are pretty positive but I'll only get excited when it's all over.

We've made it to two weeks post surgery and the wound is still clean and dry. The vet wants the sutures to stay in another week and then they come out. Vet wants to sedate him but I have asked we try and see how he copes without sedation. So we have planned his favourite vet, his favourite vet nurse, me and him and hopefully a happy ending.
