He's had his stitches out and his wound has now healed. He has scar tissue on his back and unlikely to grow fur back in this area (small price to pay for all this).
Thank you everyone for the messages both on here and via email, you have all helped me get through a tough 2 months. Thank you for all the advice and offers of help, it has all been appreciated.
I can not thank the vets and vet nurses enough for getting him healed, it was touch and go and even the vet admitted to me today that she shed tears over whether we were going to get to this point at one stage.
A few photos of Jenson today (I always fail to get get a good photo of him)
He will be allowed out in a week or so andI hope he's learnt his lesson

He looks amazingly good. So so happy he did it, I never doubted that he would esp with such a dedicated owner and vet team behind him. We'll have to compare scars . Lucy would not venture out for many months after her accident, even when all healed and she had the opportunity to. She would just sit by an open back door. But slowly and steadily her confidence grew (I pray never too much though)
All the best Jenson for a long and happy life ahead

His wounds will heal with the support. Cats are great healers. My Maine Coon had severe tissue damage over a large area of her back. It took 3 months of intensive treatment, dressing changes every 2 days and a good vet (and a lot of nursing from me) but she made it, she cost the ins co 4.5k (three yrs ago)
I'm afraid it all rests on making sure his bladder and bowel still work, only time will tell.
My fingers are most definitely crossed, good luck.
do cats get cauda equina syndrome ? because 'can't move' tail and worried aobut bladder and bowels sounds like cauda equina ?I'm afraid it all rests on making sure his bladder and bowel still work, only time will tell.

how do you do an ASIA score on a kitty ?
fingers and paws crossed for Jenson
Oh that's great, he's looking good. It is due to your care and love that he's got to this stage. I'm so pleased to hear Benson is doing well on this miserable, rainy day. Perhaps Tallulah sensed this good news last night and that's the reason she tore around the room such a lot and tried to climb the curtains!
Benson, you're a great cat!
Now please keep your fingers crossed for the horses - I'm waiting for some news (long story....)

Re: ASIA score, I don't know about this scoring system, maybe specialist vet hospitals use it, however I'm assuming it's an assessment of injury/ pain response/ stimuli etc, there are standard tests we do, as well as the observational ones to assess severity etc, but most often it's a time based assessment.

Thanks for all the great comments, just hoping he has learnt his lesson. I have a feeling the minute he's allowed outside, he'll be off for hours without a care for the worry I'll be going through.
I am amazed at how well he has coped with everything, I know my other cat would never have got through it.
Purrfect, keeping my fingers crossed for the horses, hope it all comes good (whatever it is) in the end.
Bex, am I meant to cover Jensons scar tissue (area of approx 8cmx4cm) on his back with suntan lotion? If so, any suggestions on what to use?

That's not a bad idea, luckily for me Lucy is a long hair breed and she has 3 separate scars so they are coverd which means I don't have to worry about the sun but if I was I would get a product called Petscreen SPF23, available through your vets or online. It is designed to be more of a barrier so it can't be licked off like a human suncream can be.

I doubt that - Bast hasn't been near the road since she tried to catch me a car & hurt her toes! Thank heavens!Bex, am I meant to cover Jensons scar tissue (area of approx 8cmx4cm) on his back with suntan lotion? If so, any suggestions on what to use?
Might be an idea that Bex is best placed to advise, but I'd use the highest SPF Baby stuff
Wow, great news. Good for you and Jenson
One of mine got hit smack in the face by a car a few years ago. His jaw smashed, pushed back and popped one of his eyes out
A few operations and a few hundred quid later, he was fixed. He lived happily for another 7 years. (poor fella had to be put to sleep late last year). I know how you feel and you have my utmost admiration.
Let's hope you share many more years together
