Fingers crossed please

I've been following this and my fingers and toes and (my cat) Tallulah's paws are crossed.
Poor Jenson and poor you. He is gorgeous and he is very lucky to have such a caring owner. You are making sure he is having the very best care and attention. Yes, come on Jenson and K77 - keep fighting on.
And get him some lick-elicks as treats. It looks strange and you squeeze out this mush onto a bowl but cats just love it.
My very best wishes to you both and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Change of plan.............He's home
He was getting so stressed at the vets today, being aggressive towards them to the point he's damaged his wound fighting them, that they felt the best thing for him was to send him home.
I'm a little apprehensive about him being home as I'm back to work tomorrow on 10 hour shifts but he is going to be crated whilst I'm out and they seem happy with this. He seemed really happy to be home until he realised the catflap was shut, having a funny 2 secs of running around the lounge and now hiding behind the sofa.
Monte (my other cat) is already hissing at me for bringing Jenson home. It's going to be fun keeping those two happy.
The vet has said if his wound breaks down then they will just wait and see what happens, reluctant to operate for a fourth time. They have discharged him from their care and back to my vet but I can call at any point. The bill has come in just under the limit (another reason I think he's been sent home).
Thank you to everyone for crossing their fingers and for all your beloved pets for crossing their paws, we still need them firmly crossed but here's hoping for a full recovery.
Thank you all again for your support, it has really helped xx

What a stressful afternoon, he's been so scared. Have spent the afternoon laid on the floor next to his crate trying to make him feel safe. He's settled down loads, allowed me to remove a dressing off his leg without growling and is now fast asleep belly up on his new bed.
I'll be sleeping on the sofa tonight so he knows I'm here and hopefully he'll be ok whilst I'm at work.
If anybody ever needs a specialist vet in Hampshire, I cannot recommend these people highly enough http://www.andersonmoores.com/ without them I doubt he'd be home

I visited that place when I was a rep (for a short time) and they were just starting up. Nice team with a good ethos.I'll be sleeping on the sofa tonight so he knows I'm here and hopefully he'll be ok whilst I'm at work.

leave him something you were wearing in the crate too whilst you are out I'm pleased he is home Karen
Monty will be fine, Jensen smells funny - Bast always hisses etc at Pepi if he goes to the Vet no matter how quick a visit - as a result I take them both, not possible for you
Good luck! Shout if we can help!

Thanks for the messages, I got some of that lickelicks stuff, he loves it and makes it much easier to get his tablets down him.
We all slept in the lounge last night (Jenson, me and monte) had a very quiet nice and he settled enough to allow me to remove his dressing from his cannula site.
Had a fraught 10 hours at work worrying myself sick about him, I left the radio on for him and I will leave him a t-shirt of mine from now on. He seems so much happier, although have just put him back in his crate and he's crying (knows how to make me feel bad)
The wound is oozing and looks quite moist, so worrying that this will open up again. It could be better but this time last week it had opened up by this time.

you may just need to be careful that he is not doing too much when he is out of his cage as this may cause movement to the wound slowing the healing down and cause fluid to form.
Sounds like he is coping quite well considering.
Believe me, I've learnt my lesson, he is so stressed having to go back into the crate that he's going to end up injuring himself, he won't be coming out again. Just worried about muscle wastage. He was just laid on sofa with me most of evening, so no worry about the wound in that way.Sounds like he is coping quite well considering.

Karen, how is Jensen after Christmas please?
Thanks for thinking of him, he's still stressed but easily settles. The wound has started to break down again but I'm hoping not to the extent it did before. I've got to take him to the vet this week which I'm not looking forward to for a check up.Overall a very stressful christmas, just hoping the wound stays as it is and doesn't get any worse. I feel so sorry for him but hope he understands why I'm putting him through it.
Hope you had a lovely christmas
So the wound is continuing to break down, have spoken to the specialist vet who has suggested we try honey, although we can't dress the wound so it just seems to rub straight off.
Bex I'm hoping you might read this, the wound is under a great deal of strain when he lays down which I think is a reason for it breaking down. As he's in the crate virtually all day he is laying down constantly. Am I'm being stupid thinking that by allowing him freedom of one room with nothing of great height he can jump from that this might actually help him? as it's taking the constant strain off his wound.

Has your vet heard of Camrosa ointment? It's basically a grease which moves with the wound and helps it heal whilst excluding infection. We have used it loads of times on sheep, and it works amazingly well - for example we have used it on a sheep that had been attacked by a fox and had a 6 inch square flap of skin ripped away, but I've never tried it on a cat.
