Finďing it painful reading through this thread. I lost my collie cross in similar circumstances 16 years ago. He started having fits and eventually went blind, I'm reliving it in my mind now and its not a good memory. I also lost my gsd 2 years previous to that after he lost the use of his hind legs. It took me a long time to pull myself out of that. A lot of people can't understand what you are going through as they think "its only a dog" but they become a huge part of your life.

So, 16 years later I now have a wonderful yorkie. Sometimes wonder how long we have together so im going to cherish every moment i have with him.

Thanks everyone, speaking about him does help & unless people have owned dogs (or any pet really) they will never understand that bond you have between them. I havn't thought about getting another but we were feeding & looking after our neighbours 2 cats for 4 months due to them being homeless & the cats realized where the food was so latched on to us. They have now been given accomadation so we won't see them again. frown

It was 3yrs in June we lost Jimmy, still hurts like mad and we still talk about him so much, I can really understand how you feel. We have two lovely whippets now who have their own ways and loveable characters and we think the world of them but Jimmy just had that bit extra (can't explain it) something.

Thinking of you today, can't believe it was 2yrs ago frown

Thanks bex, it does get easier over time but he will always be remembered & loved & as you say, he will always remain special even if we were to get another pet...... Doesn't time fly hey! I seem to attract all the neighbours cats so they keep me occupied most days and one of our neighbours can't believe just how much her cat (peekachew) sorry for the spelling has taken to me! I think he realises that I wouldn't cause him any harm. smilesmile

What a sad story. I lost my bull terrier (blue) in September 2015, I was heartbroken. Me and the wife decided not to replace him so we could go on mini holidays at short notice and generally have no ties. But I couldn't cope without a dog so bought Cooper at Easter this year. I still miss blue a lot but it was definitely the right decision for me.
Don't you fancy getting a replacement?

I don't like the word replacement but I do know what you actually mean.

We had a holiday booked that Jimmy had been booked to go on, he was only 9 when we lost him and so hadn't expected him not to be there for our hols, he was fit and well when we'd booked it. I couldn't even think of having another dog on that holiday so we went dog free nd I hated it missed Jimmy so much. So one week after our hols and 5 months after losing Jimmy we picked up Bryn, I took a while to properly bond with him but I love him to bits now smile

I'm sure Boobles will when they are ready.
