May possibly have to have an MRI Scan done on our miniature Schnauzer - heart condition.
Anyone have any idea of cost, or any recommendations?
Surrey/Kent Borders....
Thanks in advance.

Your vets will normally advise of a practice they will refer cases to.

My Jimmy had one done recently. Head and spine, it cost £1,400.

Have you had an ultrasound done by a referral ultrasonographer a good one can tell a lot and would be less costly.

Hope he's not poorly.

The cost of the MRI scan, consultation, and spinal fluid tap (can't have scan without consultation!) came to £1900 for our collie last year when we were trying to diagnose his fitting. Insurance reimbursed us.

Bex, Was just reading your thread on Jimmy earlier...

Well, ours Ben, has had heart failure.
Got really laboured breathing, and very lethargic. Got fluid on the lung. Vet gave him 2 tablets, 1 was to relieve the fluid by making him pee more. Can't remember the other one...
She said that he could have a third one if needs/funds allow that ease the heart slightly - these will be lifelong.

She said we could go the route of a scan, but she seems to believe that she can't hear a leaky valve - guess a scan would be definitive?

This was only yesterday.
Last night he was drinking water like he'd never had it before, and was then vomitting.
Phoned the vet today and she said would like to see him ASAP. Well that set me off :-((((

I think his breathing has improved/eased a little, as does the vet, but he is extremely lethargic - also not eaten past 2 days, so will be weak.

Tonight she put him on antibiotics, and by drip, so he is in overnight.
Got everything crossed for when I speak to them in the morning.

Contemplating whether we should get the MRI done...

Thinking of you Ben :-))

The problem is an MRI is almost certainly going to need a ga and he really sounds too poorly for that frown, maybe they would do it just under sedation, I don't know but even that would be risky. An ultrasound scan won't,

The referral ultrasonographer we use is brilliant in her field and can tell an awful lot about a heart condition.

Your vet obviously knows your Ben's case better than I will so they will advise as such but I know our main reason to refer for MRI is brain, spine, neurological cases, heart tends to be an ultrasound first

Keeping my fingers crossed for little Ben tonight, so so hard when they are so poorly.

Thanks for the info.

For fk sake.

In tears here. My little mate Ben has gone cry

Phoned vet at 9. Litlle chirpier this morning, then said phone at 11.
At 11 vet said, he can come home tonight as long as he eats so can take tablets.

They then phone my parents at 2.45 to say he passed away cry
Might have also had a tumour on lung.

I am completely devastated

Oh no frown. I am so sorry, he must have been very poorly. There is no easy words but just know that you did all you could for him. RIP little Ben

Thanks all.

Makes it worse - I took him in yesterday 4.30. He was laying on vets table looking at me..
I bent in front of him, stroked him and said I'll be back tomorrow to take you home cry

When I took him, my dad could not look at him, but said " incase I don't see you again mate, tara..."

Absolutely gutting, and am heartbroken.
He obviously woke this morning, in the vets cage with strangers about crycry

I'll miss you mate

Very sorry to read this and you were not with him. When I read your second post I thought this did not sound good as Ben had similar conditions to my spaniel who had tumours on the lung.frown She was given tablets but passed away within 2 weeks.
Remember the happy times you had with him.
