Had my cat put to sleep :(
Discussion
Last night I had to have my cat put to sleep.
Got home from work to find my wife had let him out in to the garden with the dog, the dog came in and the cat didn't. After looking all over for him we got a call from the vet at about 9 o'clock saying he had him there.
We went to see him and found he had been run over, he was laid on the table. He was very cold and barely breathing, blood on his nose and a terrible look in his eyes. He looked a little disabled, if that makes sense.
Sadly the vet explained that although he may not have broken any bones, he had sustained severe head trauma and any recovery would still leave him almost vegetable like. The nicest thing for him was to have him put to sleep. Broke my heart. When I got home his sister came over and sat with me. She spent most of the night looking for him.
Just wanted to get it off my chest, can't talk to the OH about it in case I start to go down the blame route. Poor little mite. RIP

So sorry for your loss, ditto what margett says, let the other cat see and sniff him, he will settle quicker if you do this.
We lost one of ours the other month and no sooner had she gone than one of the others walked straight over to her and sniffed her, she knew she had gone and just wanted closure on it.
We now have her ashes in a casket on a wooden chest and everyone of the other cats will sleep next to it, we're as before they did not get up onto the chest,
Make of that what you will..........

Always a heartbreaker. They come into your life, take over, wake you up in the early hours, bring decapitated small animals into the house, whine for scraps off the table, demand your attention,.....become family.
Twice I've had to bury cats in the last two years, twice I have been reduced to tears while doing it.

So sorry.I just posted here regarding our situation so I know how you both feel right now.

I hate the fact that our pets are at risk, but I also can't bear seeing them glued to a window wanting to go outside and play. It's a chance many of us take. Our cats were always kept in at night and had a nice routine.I thought it would help keep them safe.I spent a couple of minutes calling them to come home that night and only one showed up.Unbeknown to me, Ronnie was lifeless in a box at my lovely neighbours house and they were just waiting to give us the bad news.
At the moment, I breathe a sigh of relief every time the security lights at the back of the house kick in, as I know they have made it home..
