Not really sure why I am sharing this with the internet, just feel like venting a little bit.

Last night whilst having dinner with the "newish" girlfriend of about 8 months or so, she asked me to get rid of my dog..............the first words i could utter were "don't let the door hit you on the way out."

I have had my staffy for 3 years he comes to work with me everyday, when i am having a bad time i just have to look at him and he cheers me up, he is my boy, and I could never ever get rid of him no matter what, the contempt and rage I have for being asked this is, well i dont have words for it,

Only too right. She doesn't sound like a keeper.
Sounds like she's a heartless cow.

Yup, get rid of the dog before you get too involved. She will likely turn out to be one heartless bh. Plus you get to keep the real dog wink

Probably scared of it following the fatal attack this week.

Whilst your dog may well be lovely, you can understand why it would heighten her concern.

Does your dog like robust play, jump up at her, growl alot?

Lucky escape OP!

I've had Jaz, my female Westie, since she was 8 weeks old. She's now 15 and was my savour during my divorce 8 years ago.

About 7 years ago I was seeing a lady who had 3 young children. One evening she asked "if there was a fire, who would you save first, my children or your dog"? My reply was "Jaz, of course"

It didn't last smile

FFs what are people like, stupid cow. What you need is a dog loving GF.
Like you, I take mine (lab) wherever I go, she loves sitting in the van looking at things as we pootle along. I'm married so I don't have that crap, but if I wasn't it would be "love me, love my dog" or sling yer hook.

Sound like it was doomed anyway.

If you both communicate that way you stand little chance on the big stuff.

Well said OP. Stupid woman just wasted 8 months of both your lives, if that's how she felt she should've said so earlier.

What answer did she expect, silly cow?

And why bring it up after 8 months?

Bizarre.

All I can say is in 24yrs of working with dogs in a stressful environment for them, it is not the staff breed I worry about when it comes to being bitten. Trying to keep them still to be treated is usually the biggest problem!! Due to their popularity we see a lot of staffs.

8 months is a long time to get to know a dog and if she was worried maybe she should have asked questions first re her concerns first, that's what most sane people would do!!

If you think the op's g/f sounds weird....
My mates girlfriend of about one year told him to chose between her and his two young sons, as she doesn't like kids.
You can guess the rest.

Sounds like you made the right choice.

Our Staff is 10 years old and you will not find a softer dog out there, not once has he been anything other than a joy to be around.

The breed isn't the problem, it's just a small minority who give the breed a bad name who should never be allowed near them in the first place.
