Our 6 month old lab has got dioreah, after eating a cob he raided from the bin.

We know dogs can have various human medicines, but is diaralyte one of them?

You need to phone your vet. He could be in trouble and I'm not trying to scare you but one of our most common foreign bodies is a corn in the cob getting stuck in their intestines.

I urge you to phone your vets asap for advice.

We know what caused it, he ate half a ham cob from the bin.

Vets won't look at him until tomorrow as he is otherwise healthy, so don't consider it an emergency.

We are not unduly worried about him for the same reason, he has no bloating, no pain, good appetite ( that one is making it hard to starve him for 24 hours as vet said), and he looks well in himself.

I have no idea what a ham cob is!!

I saw cob and tthought you meant corn on the cob, if a dog eats one of those they nearly always get stuck. The sooner the intervention the better the outlook (ie before symptoms set in)

Is it a bone? If so yes much more likely to go through.

You really worried me then.! I'm relieved it's not that. smile.

Btw I think diarlyte would be fine to give just not too much of it.

I think it's a northern term for a ham roll.

Ham roll often not good for dogs, but dioralyte absolutely fine for diarrhoea, just use instead of water, and no food until diarrhoea stopped. If still not right tomorrow, then off to vets in case eaten anything else from the bin.

Thanks for the replies, he's just had a good drink of it, and he hasn't been fed since yesterday evening.

Hopefully he'll be back to normal soon.
