This is something I've been meaning to try for ages - to attach a GoPro to the dog's collar.

So, this is my first try ... and it didn't go too well.

I'd forgotten that, on her way up the stairs, she often stops for a shake on the landing.

Next time, I'll try a tighter / different collar attachment.

Anyway, behold "Meg-Cam" attempt #1 - click.

Tomorrow, I hope to get her morning tour of the garden.

Cheers,

Yes, she's suffering with a corn I'm afraid.

D'you know I thought she was limping. How is the corn being treated?

Brilliant.

Can't wait for the next installment.

If I tried that with my dog, you'd just get a shot of his wedding tackle. He can't leave it alone!

Well, we had another shot this morning ... but it's still not great.

She was in the mood for eating grass - which didn't make very good subject matter.

Then, one of her lugs got folded in front of the lens.

Finally, she had a shake and the camera slipped underneath again ... ho hum.

I think I'm going to have to do something with sticky velcro and some of the rubbery mat stuff to stop the collar slipping. I'll have a think about it.

I saw some YT footage with the camera mounted on a harness on the dog's back but I don't think it's right. The movement of her head adds something and the GoPro has a sufficient wide angle to see what she's looking at plus the attitude of her lugs.

I'll have a wee think over night and maybe try something different tomorrow.

I've made a really rough edit and removed the grazing.

Attempt #2 - Morning Tour of the Garden.

Hi Bex.

I've had a Compeed plaster on it which has done wonders. Someone else in the local rescue Greyhound community discovered this. In four days, it's like it's dissolved the core and left a dimple.

In the vid, she's only limping when walking on a hard floor, when she's on carpet, it's hardly noticeable.

I'm driving her to the park just now even though it's only five minutes walk. That way, she doen't have to walk on pavement, she's straight on to grass - which is fine for her.

I'm also putting a sock and a boot on her when out.

We're seeing the vet on Saturday morning so I'll see what he reckons.

She's had this one for a couple of years but it's never caused her discomfort like this before.

With her being 12 years old (or thereabouts), I'm reluctant to put her through the trauma of surgery if I can "manage" the thing and keep her comfortable.

We'll see how it pans out over the next few days, speak to the vet and then take a view.

She's also really happy just now with the weather getting better. The two of us had a really nice walk today and she had a wee exuberant jog just for the hell of it. It's a good while since I've seen that! biggrin

Aww, she shouldn't need surgery. Corns can be hulled often consciously to provide respite. There is a vet that was specialising in treating corns on greyhounds and seemed to be very successful but I can't remember his name at the mo. At 12 there maybe other factors adding to the problem such as arthritis. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Looking forward to more video!

Could you not mount the cam on a harness? Or are Greyhounds too thin for one to stay on?

I think flappy ears are going to be a continuing problem.

We are loving the vids by the way.

Hope her foot gets better soon.

I tried again this morning with a pukka Martingale comme ça ...

... but it was worse. It kept slipping under even with just the movement of her walking.

Previously, I'd been using this old "house collar" with the addition of a couple of cable ties to keep the camera in place.

I can't be bothered editing this morning's footage right now - it's probably not worth it. I might have a go this evening if that insufferable Graham Norton is polluting my living room.

Aye, I reckon it's time to try a harness. I think we have an old one somewhere which was for attaching a seat belt when she had to travel in the back seat of the car.

I'll try to get some material from a walk - in particular, meeting other dogs.

Yes indeed, beaten to it - Daniel Doherty.

I can't find the original post but I quoted it on another forum and I believe ...

bexVN said:
I believe it is because sand is often used on kennel floor and they run on soft ground so when they start a normal life the pads struggle to cope with hard surfaces, they also think it can be due to lack of fat between bone and pad. However I don't think they completely know why this affects greyhounds particularly.

I've just been looking this up and apparently there is a vet who has been successfully treating corns for a while.

He's called Daniel Doherty and is based in Middlesex. His tx is a closey guarded secret for some reason. Pity he doesn't develop it for the rest of the vet world as would help a lot more greyhounds.

This was using a harness ... but Meg had never had a harness on before ... and she wasn't very happy about it.

I managed to drag her to the park but then she just refused to go anywhere.

She forgot about it for a bit when a lurcher friend called Tan came over but ...

... anyway, here's the video.

Love it! Especially with the other dog. What would happen if she saw a rabbit? Would be in for some action chase scenes?

Brilliant! - I now absolutely need a Tally-cam sorted ready for shooting season for some dog's-eye pheasant retrieves.

Mrs TRPD is going to despair!

I recently ordered one of these for use with a quadcopter.

Not been delivered yet so can't comment on it.

Footage I've seen on YT looks ok though and the price is quite reasonable.

No worries.

Maybe hold off for a bit and let me get mine and try it out (in case it's no use).

I'll post back here with some results when I've had a shot of it.

Take care.
