When dogs get hot they pant, and humans sweat.

What do cats do?

How hot are we talking? I've had cats lay directly in front of open fires before now where their fur was hot, and I mean really hot, to the touch. Cat was quite happy and purring away.

they fking sleep on radiators!!

I think they would probably be a bit annoyed if they were on fire but they'd be 'actually' ok with the heat!

Don't they use their fur as ventilation?

A colleague of mine and I were just talking about how our pets enjoyed the nice hot days over the weekend. My dog likes a sunbathe, but regulates his temperature with enthusiastic panting:

...but I've never seen a cat panting!

I've actually had a cat with his tail wafting over the fire to the extent that it was smoking........ He was still quite happy until we put his tail out........

One of mine stands at the bathroom door and protests loudly until I run an inch of cold water into the bath. Then she jumps in a goes for a paddle.

Was on holiday in Rhodes last summer where temperatures were well above 30°C. We had a little stray cat come to our villa most days and we would give him some milk/water. It was so hot one day that the poor mite was panting, we both commented that we'd never seen a cat pant before!

Our cat pants when he gets hot, especially if he's been running about. Although he acts like a dog. We can chase him round like you would a dog

Cats sweat through their pads when they're hot or stressed. You will usually see little paw prints of sweat on the examination table at the vets.

Cats can pant but only normally do so when they are suffering from heatstroke. A cat panting when it isn't hot can be a sign of quite serious illness.

Their ears also get hot as thats how they get rid of excess heat. Again this can be a sign of illness though.

My Selkirk Rex has quite thick fur, like a polar bear, and she was led on the kitchen table yesterday soaking up the sunlight.
