My cat caught a snake
Discussion
Grass snakes have quite a distinctive pattern on them. If it was plain green or brown then it is more likely to be a slow worm. They are not actually snakes but are closer related to lizards.

It was a slow worm mine doesn't bring anything as interesting as yours heretic but he does bring back little lizard like or newt the creatures. I'm not sure where they all come from.
One of mine loves the lizards, but he only wants to play with their tails. Once they drop those he lets them go.

Yes they are Anguidae in the sub group of lizards which is why I said they are not snakes.
But you also said they are "closely related to lizards" which is wrong, they are lizards. That's like saying gibbons are closely related to apes.Anyway, my cat once bought pulled a dead seagull through the catflap, as well as numerous large rats, magpies, moles and everything in between.
