Hi Guys,
Hoping for a bit of constructive advice from some more experienced dog owners. We are currently dog-sitting Brian the pug belonging to my step-son and his partner. Brian visits most weeks and has stayed with us before with few problems. However, yesterday instead of his usual daily poop, he went 5 times. Fortunately, before we went to bed, we laid down some newspaper because when I got up this morning, he had been twice in the lounge, something he has never done before. I have taken him for his morning walk and he went again. He seems lively enough and has knocked seven bells out of his Kong to eat his breakfast. What can I do? The material coming out of him is a bit soft but I would not describe it as diarhorrea. As I said he seems his normal, lively self, is there anything I can feed him to "firm" things up a bit? He is always fed the best Pug food and not allowed to eat anything that would not be good for him, so I am struggling to come up with any ideas.
All constructive replies would be gratefully received.

I would not feed him anything else for the rest of the day, then later this evening or even tom am try a bland diet such as chicken and rice and make sure he is drinking ok. Ideally I'd have said no breakfast this morning.
Has he had any treats/ different food offered over the last couple days?

Hi Bex,
Thanks for the response. He has not had anything other than his normal diet. He is drinking as usual. We had already decided not to feed him anything else today to see if that helps. We will then keep it bland as suggested. Thanks again.
Does he scavenge at all? Only other things are has he been stressed more than usual recently or complete long shot but has it been a new batch of food started recently? Otherwise it could be the start of a stomach bug but you'd expect him to feel a bit miserable if it were. Thanks for the response. He has not had anything other than his normal diet. Hopefully starving then bland food should be enough.
Does he have access to the kitchen, or anywhere where he may be able to get food that you aren't aware of?
Pugs will eat anything and won't stop, they will gorge themselves too and can be very crafty about it, Humphrey, my Pug, would help himself to the food recycle bin when we weren't looking and in doing so has made him ill in the past.

After an expensive incident involving chocolate and a trip to the vets, we Brian proof everything before he comes to visit. He does have access to his water bowl in the kitchen, but all food is well out of reach.
As an update, we starved him after breakfast yesterday and there was just one, relatively sloppy poop. Fortunately, when I woke him this morning, the lounge was also a poop free zone. He has had a bland breakfast and SWMBO has just taken him for his morning walk.

As an aside, Brian is brilliant name for a Pug, the males really suit proper human names, if you know what I mean.
As you already know ours is Humphrey, I also know a Colin, an Alfred, Archie and an Alfie, normal dog names just don't suit Pugs.
