Pup meeting resident dog - First time advice
Discussion
We have a 5 yr old lab, friendly soul though a little excitable. Our new puppy arrives on Saturday. My plan was just to let them get down with their bad self's in the garden and hopefully all goes well. Is this a bad idea or is there a preferred method of introducing a pup to the current mutt? We looked after our mums westie for a few days and the lab wasn't that bothered even though the westie got quite territorial.
If excitable I would take him out for a long walk just before the puppy arrives, then bring him out of the house to meet the puppy (which I assume you are bringing him before it is vaccinated - which I also assume you are doing and therefore wouldn't want to take it for a 2 min walk). Then you take them both into the house at the same time..
As long as he is friendly it is likely they will be fine. Puppies get away with so much more than an adult dog.

Good idea on taking him out for a walk. I'll do that before the "Destroyer" comes home. Yes, the pup won't be vaccinated till next week so a little walk isn't on the cards. However she is only coming from 50 yards away from my house so I might chance it and walk them both home together.
I wouldn't walk the pup. This will be a very stressful time for the pup, it is not likely to be collar or lead trained making 50 short yards seem like a very long journey and it's very low risk but why even think of 'chancing it'
Obviously if you're going to carry the pup the above won't apply though pup will probably still be scared of the big wide world.
Good luck with the introductions

when we got out new lab pup Lucy in November Oscar (3yr old lab) basically went in the huff. Never agressive but wouldnt go near her, he would even go and lie at the top of the stairs to avoid her because she couldnt get up. This lasted about 2 weeks before they became friends and started play fighting constantly. Sadly we lost Lucy when she was only 16 weeks.
We got a new puppy Poppy in April and the two of them were fine together from the off, Poppy torments the life out of oscar, biting his hears and hanging off his neck by her teeth constantly. He never ever gets agressive with her, sometimes puts her in her place but not in a nasty way.
