Dog insurence advice please.

For what it worth. We insured our previous dog and current one with PetPlan. They were excellent at settling a claim for term treatment in the past. Our new dog had an nasty throat injury after catching a stick long ways on. Total Vets bill around £500 I think they stumped up about £425, again with no hassle.

We did consider putting the cash in a savings account every month but as ours is a rescue dog from The Dogs Trust, insurance is a compulsory part of the adoption agreement.

To be honest £35 a month in the grand scheme of things is nothing, for the peice of mind it delivers. All of our dogs are insured with Animal Friends on their life time policies, which stipulate the a max for a given condition in 12 months. You want to avoid lunar or monthly policies.


Bear in mind £35 goes no where at a vets with a large breed dog. Things like anti biotics, anti inflamatories etc are largely weight based on dosage and therefore instanly cost more.

Just to put it into context one of our Bull Dogs, in his first year to 18 months alone probably cracked 8k in vet bills. When put into that sort of context £35 a month is very little for peice of mind. Putting the £35 a month into an account would not have even touched the sides of this bill.
