Trying to get a little help for my mum, she has a cocker spaniel which is adorable but does on occasion get a little carried away with it's bird chasing, most times she comes back within 30 mins but now and then like yesterday is gone for hours mainly because she's lost track of where she is.

So to save mum getting the whole retirement mobilised again(I kid you not as they all love the dog) I thought about some kind of tracker just so mum can get an idea of direction.
I've had a hunt around but all the gps ones either use google maps or a smartphone and I'd much prefer something simpler like general direction on a little hand held doohicky.

I did suggest we make a little backpack that when you press a button pulls her legs in then lets up a small tethered orange helium balloon so she can see where she is, strangely this didn't meet with much enthusiasm wink

Any ideas especially if you've used something like this before.

Thanks

Why not just train it not to chase birds.

This sound like an ideal candidate for an electric collar. The dog will soon learn not to leave the garden.

NO!

Cockers love to hunt. You just need to train the dog so if it does find something it stops. not an easy task by the way. Once they go into chase mode it can be hard to get them to stop. Go onto the gun dog forums there is plenty of good info on how to get it to stop instead of chasing it.
