Just wondered if theres anyone on here that had any animal medical experience,

My 3 year old Birman Cat has developed a bony lump at the top of his head just behind the ears and at the top of his spine, Its occurred literally overnight and doesn't hurt him at all. Its definitely under the skin and attached to the bone.

He hasn't noticed it and seems to be eating, playing and is generally behaving as he always has.

We've recently moved into a place with tiled floors as opposed to carpet and they are really slippery (Well for Cats) and also my OH has brought her cat to move in which has resulted in quite a few cat wrestling matches (Not full on fighting as they seem to be quite good friends already)

Is it possible this lump is a result of the play fighting and he's knocked his head on something or could it be something more?

You can't see the bump through his fluff but its noticeable when you stroke him.

Heres a picture showing the location of it,

Thanks in advance, I thought asking here initially would be far more productive than visiting a Greek vet.

Cats are resilient little buggers. Just keep an eye on it as the odds are he will sort himself out.

It's an unusual injury for a cat but if everything else is fine then probably just keep a check on it for now, of it gets bigger /becomes uncomfortable to touch then it will need looking at.

Is there any chance that he has lost weight recently?

Is the cat chipped? We have a very dainty (read boney) female and is thought I'd found a lump just by her shoulder blade. Turned out the microchip had moved but it did feel like a big hard lump!

Thanks for the replies smile

It's stayed the same over the past few days, We've just weighed him and he's put on a bit of weight but seems to have grown slightly too as he's a pretty huge cat.

I found his chip as i took him to the vet a few months ago thinking it was something left inside him after his amputation but it transpired that was the chip smile

We'll give him another few days and if the bump remains the same head over to the local vet as the bump doesn't seem to be hurting him even if you touch, poke or prod it.

That's good. I was thinking weight loss (or muscle mass loss) which may have caused a bony prominence on back the head to become more obvious.

I agree, observe, check daily and vet check if concerned or if any changes to it.

The bump seems to be getting smaller now. I took him to the vet who said that its nothing to worry about which is all good smile
