Just checking really. See bullweilers, cockapoos, cockazus and all other random things these days (at least that is what people are calling them).

Maybe it's good in a way, mongrelisation can tend to breed out the nastiness in some breeds.

We do see them esp ex rescues but they are always entered on our database as crossbreed, never mongrel or Heinz 57. If poss we always try and put the breed in but without the names. Ie a collie x lab is just that. We'll put in names of regularly occurring mixes though if there is one or if owner wants to so labradoodle, cockerpoo, sprocket (they tend to be the most common)

Knowing what the breed mix can be helpful to us but we do still get true mongrels where we'll never know for sure!!

They do overpay I really can't believe how much people will pay (but that goes for pure bred aswell 2.5k for a bulldog 1.2k for a chihuahua ridiculous prices and that's not even for champion dogs)

1st generation crosses are just that crossbreed not mongrels.

Yep my plumber paid more for his rat thing than I paid for all three of my (pedigree) dogs put together!

What is this 'paying for dogs'. Mine was a stray puppy rescued from a bush by a river. hehe

He's not posh.

Heinz 57 cat. I paid £150 for him from Cat's Protection and he's worth every penny.

I see lots of mongrels nowadays - trouble is they're usually swigging lager behind a bulldog on a piece of string....

When getting the current mutt we specifically looked for a mongrel, they no longer seem to exist, everything was a fancy named 'cross'.

When I were a lad and all this were fields I remember mongrels being ten a penny. Now they seem to have been rebranded. A friend has a stippet and seems to think it is a breed in its own right and I suspect many cockerpoo brand dogs will be viewed similarly.

I suspect there are fewer dogs and a greater percentage of them have been 'done' to prevent happy accidents. Which is a shame as I am immensely fond of the generic Universal Brown Dog and would like to see more of them.

A girl I know from the gym got a maltease cross stzu and she didn't get much change from a grand! I was shocked that someone would pay that much for a cross! They're being sold as designer dogs rather than mongrels.

Another vote for the generic brown here. £70 from the dogs trust and couldn't ask for a better dog.
