My girlfriend came across this little guy in our kitchen a few days ago.

We've had zero success trying to identify him, so here I am asking you guys.

Sadly, turns out he was dying. One more photo

Any ideas?

Cheers

Yeah, quite similar. Although didn't have the amount of bulk to it.

I think it's definitely a beetle, but those eyelash antenna are quite distinctive. Thing is, google image search for beetle with eyelashes brings up a load of VWs biggrin

I think the wing case will look like that web closed. Another thing is its long spindly legs which are not very beetle like.

I thought cockchafer at first, but said it seems too slender. Definitely a beetle (Coleoptera), it seems there are many chafer species: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melolontha

I'd guess it's either a blow-in from the continent, or just a particularly skinny cockchafer.

Definitely a chafer beetle of some sort - the antennae are quite distinctive.

Finally found what it is!

It's called metoecus paradoxus and is a wasp nest parasite. Apparently it's quite rare!
