You wouldn't, you grew up with it.

If you grew up in India you'd be happy wiping your arse with your left hand.
And if you grew up in China you'd think blowing your nose on a handkerchief and putting it in your pocket was disgusting.
Or just born in the UK after say 1950. Carrying a portable snot repository IS gross... It's 2014, use a disposable ffs smile

Valid points, but why do people think dogs on the bed are wrong? Mrs Hooli doesn't allow it due to hair on the bedding.
Honestly? I wouldn't wish to put too fine a point on it for fear of causing offence. But it is a truely disgusting thing to many people including myself. Dogs are dogs - i shouldn't have to say any more than that really, anyone with any experience of the animals knows their nature.

Sorry, my mad dog person warning alarm just went off so I'm afraid I can't engage with you on this topic.

Best I can suggest is you carry on sleeping with animals and I'll carry on being disgusted.

Pound to a pinch of salt that pinchmeimdreamin is of the very firm opinion that his dogs are better mannered than you.
I know.

I could tell his dogs were going to be special right off the bat.

Well, I guess I see like this; there are two types of dog owners. Those that 'get it' like the chap I'm having a beer with right now, and those that don't and therefore ask you to explain.

The latter rarely change their entrenched ways and continue to use their guest rooms (!!) as kennels so I feel I'm wasting my time somewhat in engaging with them as they'll only tell me that their particular dog is clean, has never eaten st, doesnt sniff other dogs arses, doesnt walk the streets on it's paws, couldn't possibly have fleas, and suffers absolutely no adverse behaviours as a result of being elevated in the pack.

Their dogs are special.

Anybody else imagine D6 walking around in a hermetically sealed bubble?
They probably can.

In much the same way as I can imagine some posters nusseling and letting their dog lick their face.

But ask yourself which of those two scenarios is most likely to actually occur.

In an ideal world.... Yes!

Joking aside, this is where folk get it twisted imo. You can care for an animal, treat it humainly, even love it. But as soon as you blur the lines between human and dog I'm afraid you've messed up - they are not comparable.

I wouldn't have either cat or dog or my bed.

But just out of curiosity, do the dog owners here really not draw any distinction between a cat and dog, in the way they behave, cleanliness etc?

I am guessing you don't have cats then.
hehe

Not at the moment, always grew up with them though. Probably get one when my kid is 4+ years old.

Quality thread - dogs being treated in this way is a UK thing.

Most other nationalities leave their dog outside and see it as 'dirty' to bring them inside.

I have a GSD and it lives outside and is very happy - no way is it coming inside and no way does it come even close to being on the same 'i love them' level as my kids!!!

Dogs are animals, lovely animals but animals none the less.
Thank heavens, some sanity!

As a dog owner... I've often thought the same about parents..... smile
You are not a dog owner. You are a Dog Person.

why do you think cats are cleaner? biglaugh They only pretend they are but believe me they really are not.
I don't remember explicitly stating I did.
But I'll play along...

I guess 35 years observation is what I base my views on. During that time I have never:

- seen a cat walked up and down the st riden streets on a daily basis, many are house cats.

- seen a cat rub it's nose in anothers arse like it's motorboating Kelly Brook.

- seen a cat eat it's own st with the same enthusiasm I might a curry.

- seen a cat drag it's arse along a carpet (bed?) with it's front paws.

- seen a cat roll in st with unabounded glee.

- seen a cat require it's own cleaning station at the entrance to a home.

I did however observe my cat eat it's own puke once. Like I said I wouldn't have either in my sleeping quarters but if I HAD to chose.... well it wouldn't be that hard tbh.

Bex, I dont wish to be rude but it's very annoying when people willfully ignore very plain statements. So, just for you, I will repeat ONCE more - I don't want and would never accept either animal (that's cat or dog ok?) in my sleeping quarters.

I hope that's clear, as I said it twice already on this page I believe.

I didn't start this thread as some sort of tedious "cats is much betterz than dog, cos they is clean" discussion - they are both animals with all that entails.

I started the thread because I am genuinely puzzled, nay astonished at the way people treat their pets and hoped to gain some further insight into this behaviour.

Comments have followed. A common theme appears to be equating humans (children, relatives etc) to dogs - I find that really disturbing which is why I'm still here.

Putting the "ewww gross" stuff to one side though, I can't help but observe a high correlation of comments that state:

"I can't stand/don't like kids, I am however a fully paid up Dog Person™"

I'm no psychologist but I'm sure this telling me something I already know about Dog People™

I suspect there's an imbalance somewhere, something not quite right.... I mean, I know plenty of dog owners who don't express these strong adverse views about their own humankind and they rarely humanise their pets to such extreme.

Maybe Dog People™ were bullied at school or something and take solace in the unquestioning loyalty and devotion - I can understand that, but I doubt it's healthy.

Certainly more the latter. But then again the latter type do tend to give privileges such as bed room rights more commonly... scratchchin

Interesting. The mention of the C word does bring out the most militant of Dog People. However I have witnessed some very happy crate trained animals. Again folk applying their human sensibilities to an animal.

Exactly what is it about me that annoys you so much??

Twice now you have answered my posts with childish answers rather than arguing your point?.

Is the fact I treat my pets as something other than a lower life form that scary ???
Don't be so sensitive.

I've seen the reaction to crate training on here before, that is all.... I don't see anything particularly childish about my post.

Ok, ok enough of the witch hunt guys. I don't think any of us really know enough about Mr Singh's domestic arrangements to stand in judgement.

Oh and he really isn't under any obligation to answer the questions of strangers on the internet.

I note he has repeatedly acknowledged the importance of regular contact and socialisation however so perhaps benefit of the doubt could be given before quoting the law!!

Anyway, hands up who lets their dog lick their face? That's the important issue after all...
