Just been round Scarborough sea front - nearly witnessed an absolute catastrophy.

Bloke parked up with his V70 estate ready to let his dogs out to go down on the beach - across the road. As soon as I had driven past he opens the boot, without being aware of the care coming the other way.

You can imagine what I saw in my rear view mirror. Five Springers sprinting in front of a Passat - one bounced off the bumper and wing and was laid out. It was very nearly all five gone.

He carried it to the roadside where it had some blood loss from its nose and we were trying to get all the other dogs back in his car, stopping traffic etc. I went back to get our mobile to get our vets number. In the thirty seconds I had been gone the dog had come round and despite attempts to rest it the dog was up and heading down the steps to the beach.

The prat was so concerned about the possibilty of having to incur an out of hours charge for the vet - he insisted he would take the dog tomorrow. Five Spaniels and a newish V70 indicate the guy was not on his uppers. In the end all he was dealing with was the dent in the Passat wing and I'm sure the dog won't get taken to a vet tommorrow. I hope everything is OK - or he gets home and his wife reads the riot act.

For this reason we only let our dogs off in a secure field / garden. I have regretably taken out a farmers GSD at 60mph when it had ''got out'' and crossed the main road to other fields - nasty memories came flooding back.

What a f***ng muppet. DO people leave their brains at home when they take their dogs out? IT sure seems like it at times.

Hopefully the dog is ok in the end.
