We are looking for another dog and so have been scanning the papers etc, dogs that as far as I am concerned are mongrels, and no worse for being mongrels, are being sold for silly money.
Mongrels used to be pretty much given away, I have seen today germadoodles for £350, cockopoos for similar money and various other cross breeds (mongrels) all for several hundred pounds.

I know there are more important things to get twisted out of shape about, but to use a PH expression, this is boiling my piss.

I don't think it's worth boiling your piss to be honest.

But then again I think any dog that is not an English Springer Spaniel is no dog at all. wink

Can you tell I miss him?

With you on strange mongrel mixtures though, years gone by they couldn't give them away.

The cockapoodles etc are seen as fashionable currently... for most people a mongrel is what you end up with when your dog runs away for 3 days and comes back pregnant. These dogs are being specifically bred... they're always going to command premium prices.

Sorry, but when e.g a cockapoo is bred pecifucally to be a ockapoo by desigh, it's not a mongrel - and i don't care what crufts says.

Most of the breeds we have are here by design, so designing a cockapoo is just an extention of that.

Isn't there a difference between crossbreeding two specific pedigrees to create a new breed (eg: labradoodle) and a Mongrel which is two random mutts of no known lineage embarrassing their owners in the local park?

Either way... a dog is a dog, four legs a mouth and an arse... £1k or £40 from the rescue centre the end product is the same, silly furball that makes you laugh, eats and sts smile

Met a Wolfadoodle the other week. Cross between an Irish Wolfhound and a poodle. Odd looking dog. My comment that I hoped the poodle bit was a standard rather miniature earned me a strained look form the owner.

I wish someone would create a Labrador that doesn't shed it's hair.

My parents have a female dalmatian that's not been spayed and I am just about to pick up a Vizsla boy.

Should we mate them and create a ('bobby') Dazsler? biggrin

There is something along those lines but I forget the fancy name for them. Imagine a massive cavoodle the size of a lab. They don't shed.

OP, I have been rescuing cockers for 7 long hard years. Don't get one of them. Too annoying.

I recommend that you look up your local rescue mobs and contact them. Some have the belief that charging a million dollars means that they go to good homes. Some of those people also pocket the change. If you're a lazy owner then I highly recommend a retired greyhound. They do nothing. Ever.

Until recognised by the KC as a pedigree, it's a mongrel.

I'd rather have a mongrel than a 'pure breed': http://dogbehaviorscience.wordpress.com/2012/09/29...

Forget the over priced fashion accessories in the paper and go and visit your local rescue centre.

That's one of the reasons the labradoodle was 'created'.

Been to a rescue centre lately ? Unless you want some chavs abandoned Staffy you might struggle to find a suitable dog. This is the reason that for the first time in my life I bought a dog from a breeder.

I too mourn the passing of the Generic Brown Dog.

TO the poster above - nowt wrong with staffies, they'll see you right. Lovely dogs. Just a shame so many tracksuit bedecked idiots own them, but that's not the dogs fault.
