Hello and apologies if this is a dumb question but I am relatively new to the world of dog ownership. Our sixteen week old puppy hasnt eaten anything today. Normally she cant wait to have her breakfast (or lunch etc) and wolfs it down in about 30 seconds. However today so far she has eaten nothing. She seems ok in herself and was chasing a ball in the garden etc but still hasnt eaten a thing all day. She has, I think drunk some water. Should I be worried? Should i try a different food or take her to the vet? All thoughts welcome from the PH dog owning community and much appreciated.

What food is she on just now?

When mine goes off her food I try something a little easier on the tum like chicken and rice, or scrambled egg.

^ +1 give her something different first, if she doesnt eat that then perhaps take her to the vets... i once got told to not worry if they dont eat for 3 days, but any longer then something could be wrong (that was for spaniels btw. i dont know if other breeds or different). I personally wouldn't wait that long but the guy who told me does know his onions.

Has she been wormed? My dog stopped eating and a dose of tablets sorted him right out.

If she is on hard food it might be hurting her mouth. That happend with one of mine i soaked her food in water to sofen it up and tried her with wet stuff. Seemed to work. Keep a eye on what she is drinking to thats important to.

If it carrys on i wouldnt leave it to long before i was a the vets with a puppy

Thanks for the replies. She's on the Hills Science Plan stuff at the moment. I may see how she is tomorrow then try her on something else and take her to the vet if she still doesnt eat. Worse than having a baby!

She's very young if not eaten a decent amount of food by tom am then get her into the vets tom. Adult dogs can safely go without food for 24-48hrs puppies cannot. Definitely try her with something tasty and gentle on the tummy like scrambled egg tonight.

Good point, she may be suffering an adverse reaction to it, especially if done in the last day or two.

Adverse reactions if they occur do not usually present in this way, if she was going to have one (and unless she had a top up Parvo vaccine the course should've been done weeks ago) she will be lethargic and appear obviously unwell.

I was more worried about the pup actually having parvo or lepto. I think that parvo would have more serious symptoms. If she deteriorates or has bloody diarrhoea get her down the vets.
