At the park today. Can't wait till he's fully vaccinated and doesn't require carrying everywhere!

What an adorable wee guy. If we're doing requests, I'd like a video too!

Thanks Louis!

A bed a month so far! Going to buy the toughest thing we can find next.
Is he left very long in the daytime to do this or is it overnight.?
He is fine over night, this is during the day. I go home at lunch, so 4 hours alone in the morning, 3 in the afternoon. Generally he is fine and on his bed when I come back, but once a week or so he'll have messed up the bed, or the mat by the door.

He still gets super excited when meeting people, to the point of peeing, and it's starting to drive me insane, so we're looking at getting 1-2-1 classes for him too.

How old is he? If you don't mind me asking.

6 months.

Got a new bed today, and some new toys, done a long walk with him, went upstairs for 2 minutes to change and I could hear him chewing and messing with his bed. Came down to it the other side of the room with bite marks!

Fabulous pic of a gorgous pup. The head under the chair is funny, but the perspective on this is cracking....

For the next purchase - give the sheepskin a try, may even be cheaper than a dog bed.

With regard to the excitement meeting people - i would say he needs a bit of tough love (i.e. locked away when people come and keep walking when out on a walk with a brisk apology for not stopping) - it's really hard but if you persevere I am sure it will work.

Thanks for the advice.

Currently when ever someone comes past we get him to sit, stay, until they've walked past then continue, it works but at home we put him in an other room. After 5 mins he is calm.

Try a whole sheepskin - ours love them, although the Neo is getting way too big he still tries to squeeze himself on.
Ours plucked our sheepskin rug.

Actually, he also did something else to it, which rhymes with "plucked".

So louis has now destroyed the toy bought for him 7 hours ago , a record!?

He has so much energy, seems a long walk does nothing!

You'll never out walk a Vizsla.

How much "doing nothing" time does he have?

7 hours during the week, 4 hours , lunch then 3. He gets a good walk every day in the afternoon.

Eta: and now 2 minutes later he's asleep!

OK - I was just trying to see if he was "over stimulated". All said though - he is still only a pup, and what's a few shredded beds against all the other good stuff????

Get a decent bed like a Tuffies, and toys such as a Kong to keep him mentally stimulated. That's what's causing the problem, you'll struggle to tire him physically so you need to give him things to tire his brain.

I'd say don't stop him meeting/greeting people but go through the sit/calming IF he gets too excited and reward when he greets them calmly. Avoiding meeting/greeting means he'll never learn to calm down and could lead to some results you don't intend.

Don't worry too much though, if Vizlas are anything like Weims then he'll calm down in about 6 years wink

He's only a pup. Don't worry he will calm down. Trouble with having a dog that is bred to work is that he will always take a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. But the hyper behaviour will get a lot better when he hits 12months old. Have you considered getting his man parts removed at some point? That will chill him out too.

You just have to remember that it will get better and easier. Pups are hard work. Boycie is 6 months now and he's crackers. He's hard work at times but He will calm down though in the next few months.

He's destroying beds because it's fun and it's a game. He will grow out of it, but I highly recommend tuffies beds. He will not be able to destroy one of them.
