I posted these pics of Jackson when I started the original dog photos thread over seven years ago, and the top one is still my favourite. Unfortunately we had to have him PTS yesterday as it looks as though he suffered a couple of strokes and couldn't stand up and didn't really know what was going on. We're devastated and miss him very much.

This makes me think yet again about the idea of going along with Mrs B's wish for a second dog to keep our cockerpoo company. Things that put me off include whether they'd get on together, the extra food and vet costs, and having two lots of eyes begging me for grub instead of one! Would be interesting to know what folk on here think about single or multiple dog ownership.
Personally I always think 2 (or 3 in my case) is better than one. Dogs are pack animals, they like having other dogs around. The cost obviously increases but its well worth it.

Sorry to hear that. We had to do the same with one of ours last year. Taking him to the vets on his last day was one of the hardest things I've had to do but it was the right thing for him. Still miss the big old beast. Its the one bad side to having dogs, the dont live that long

I am so very sorry for your loss, these photos are iconic to me re:this thread. I remember when you first started it after the cat one was already running. My Jimmy was still alive then. A lot of changes (including our names in some cases!), we've said goodbye to many dearly loved canine companions (as well as saying hello to many newbie canine friends) I am saddened to read we now have to say goodbye to your good friend. Thinking of you.
Thank you bex, that means a lot to me. Thanks for the kind words from other people too. I don't post in this thread very often but I look at it every day, and I'm so happy that it's still going strong and giving so many people so much pleasure. Long may it continue.
Dogs are awesome, make sure you all give yours lots of love.

My favourite photo of him too
Gone from your sight but never your hearts.
My new one ( that's 3). Meet Dylan ( or " I'm Dill the dog, I'm a dog named Dill" from the Herb Garden if you are old enough)
He's a springerdor , half lab, half springer, but mom and dad both springerdors ( think smaller thinner lab with lab train ability and springer brain)
He will come shooting with me eventually with my working cocker Sam.

I know it is very early but are you thinking about another dog in the future?
Again very sorry for your loss.
R.I.P Jackson

18 months in with our rescued Mastiff X Tazmanian Devil! Been a bit of a ride and it ain't over yet. Pretty settled now but still a bit unpredictable!! Wouldn't change him, well not today anyway!
The beginning after he was dumped.......
Microchip cut out...
Scars...
Settled and happy
Update at last William has landed on his paws , William fell in love at first site, we know this is going to be a long journey for all 3 of them but we cant thank his new mum and dad for giving him a chance to have a life filled with love after everything that happened to this boy we wish him a huge happy life
This is William a little boy that hasn’t had the best start in life. Bullmastiff Rescue & Adoption rescue was contacted by a vet that gave Kerry Young and Debbie Thomas his history. He was thin, full of cuts where he had been used as a bait dog, he had his microchip sliced out in his neck and was thrown from a van being left at the road side. A passer by picked him up and took him to the local vets where his injuries were treated, allof his wounds are clearing up nicely now. William is becoming a little chub and has lovely coverage.
William is so trusting despite all he has been through. He is full of life and a very active boy. His previous owner trained him to bark for food. We as his fosters have been trying to stop that because whoever will give William his forever home may not like it. He means no harm. There is no food aggression. In his forever home he can’t be placed with cats, can be with other dogs with the right introduction, he will only be homed with a female dog. Walks well on lead, he listens and returns when being called. He is a lovely caring boy who will give you his all. He deserves to be part of a family, sleep on couch,he will need to be with a firm handler, will need to be with someone who will keep up with his manners and tolerate no nonsense but will give him all the attention and love that he deserves.
