1st & last. No.1 taken at just 3 days old, eyes still not open yet.
No.2 taken some time in December aged 13.5yrs, probably the last pic I took of him, had to have him PTS on Friday.

We visited him every week bar 1 until we collected him at 7 or 8 weeks old, never been so close to a dog before.

I'm guessing the black one is a working cocker?

Trying desperately to convince myself not to do it...

Mine does that too...and yes it's oddly ok...however, her playful nibbles turn into something quite painful...she is getting better though.

Yes she is a working cocker.... don't do it! They are a pain in the ass! Get an English Springer, less needy and just... better :P.

edit: didnt realise you posted your 1st and last pics of your dog, he looks lovely frown

One from the weekend ... and about as happy a face as a Basset can manage smile

Great weekend with both boys - three new places explored for walkies, and two longer car journeys achieved without mess. Another few months and the boys should be able to start going for longer walks - roll on summer!

Anyway, one tired/happy Boomer:

So sorry to hear this fella. Never had a dog until we got Boomer and Moose in October, and I honestly cannot believe how close a bond I have with them already. Going to make the most of the far too short 8-10 years they get with us.

Had springers & a sprocker before, would never have another springer now, far too easy! And if you think a girl cocker is bad, try a dog!

Cockers more work than springers? Really, my cocker was the easiest dog ever. Trained easily, responded well, loved to walk, swim, not fetch but make you get it back, etc.

Everyone I've known with a springer has had a handful of a dog.

And I'm no dog whisperer. Maybe I got lucky?

ETA, sorry for your loss, never an easy thing

Thank you, it's only once you've lost a dog you understand the loss isn't it.

And yes, springers are easier IME, my working cocker was the best & worst dog I've ever had! I read somewhere that if the Devil shot, he'd shoot over a pair of cockers - I find it hard to argue with that!

Yours must be much younger than mine, but they are all great dogs

It is, time heals and all that but it's every bit as bad as loosing a human IMO, maybe worse.

I'm very surprised about the springer being easier, really am. Maybe it's because they aren't working Cockers but pure pets.

Eventually

Its only a matter of a few weeks but feels like forever

Plus those baby teeth are like needles.

Nylabone or similar may helps
One of my favourite stages of puppyhood, youstart to bond and respect each other through play like this.

IMO you can be harder on a springer than a cocker which makes it a lot easier to get them to do what they're told. I find working cockers to need more persuasion and different, softer techniques to get them in tow! That can be a pain and take more time. All IMO of course but thats based on 4 dogs, 2 of each breed.
