Spotted a pair of robins going in and out my garage through and open window this morning, had a look and spotted a neatly stacked pile of leaves on the shelf at the back, the nest is still being built.

Obviously i'm going to minimise use of the garage as much as possible, but am i likely to disturb them if i go in and out or open the garage door. The nest is right at the back up high so fairly out of the way.

Should be alright if it's at the back. Had one nest in a shed a few years back (by the door inconveniently) and if we gave them a wide berth on the way in and out they would ignore us and get on with bird type stuff.

If you disturb them/get too close they will let you know with a in-garage scale model Stuka dive bomb attack.

Vicious little swine, your average robin. Partial to murderous turf wars, rape and indiscriminate violence. Not quite as cute as perceived. Should be very interesting though. Webcam is a must.

My mother has Swallows in the stables (i know, i've heard all the fking jokes!) and Robins in the Tack room.

Don't go to close to the nest, if you have to go in their ignore the vicious little fkers and then enjoy the few weeks of having fledgling birds about later in spring when they are first exploring.

The Swallows are mint when they learn to fly as they veer between sublime skills and inability to stop, but fledgling robins are just fearless and will investigate everything nearby before moving on. thumbup

That is cool. Leave some mealworm treats, soaked in water to soften the casings, for them occasionally if the weather gets too wet or too dry (but not every day, as they need to hunt and stay wild). If memory serves, robins grow fast from hatching to flying in 2 or 3 weeks.

Ok, so I think the camera is working over the interweb. go to http://cf4994.myfoscam.org:8090 Username Robin Password Robin

Please have a try and let me know of any problems.

Not much happening right now obviously and the night vision picture is a bit grainy.

They seem to be building the nest actually behind the boat, bit of a shame it can't be seen better but hopefully when they actually move in proper and lay eggs there'll be a lot more activity. I cannot move the cam any closer for fear of disturbing them.

Now I've just got to figure out how to set the cam to take a still picture when the motion detection is triggered.

I can't get on the cam as i'm on one of apples travesies to competition - but that screenshot is well cool. Not quite as cool as that rc boat, but it kicks the arse of that bore oddy springwatch thing.

It's quite cool if i do say so myself. The cam is on auto day/night setting at present so if we get sunny days it should kick into high res colour. Never done anything like this before so it's been educational. They've been quite active in the mornings, not so much today as it was raining like a very rainy thing!!
