My Boxer dog (9) was having her yearly booster last week and I mentioned her hind leg had been stiff, but I was sure it was early arthritis as it's been on and off for some time.

The vet was quite insistent to get her x-rayed... so this is where I should have asked how much, but in my head I was thinking about £50.

Get her back just to be told what I already know and £210 lighter!!

Is this a typical price for a doggie x-ray?

I spend a fair bit on Hills mobility dry food and glucosamine tablets anyway, I just hate getting ripped off!

Depends where you live but tbh £50 was very unrealistic esp if they have digital xrays (several grand of equipment) usually a general anaesthetic or a least heavy sedation (so nurse monitoring during and after procedure) time plus cost of drugs used, this is not a 5 min procedure more like an hour in total and finally vets interpretation of ths xray.

This all adds up I'm afraid.

Should they have rushed in to xray, impossible for me fo say but boxers ate tumour prone so good to rule out worst case scenarios. Arthritis can vary greatly so knowing what stage it is at will help with planning long term care etc. Hopefully also rules out cruciate disease which can show same symptoms as arthritis.

It is rare we don't give estimates these days tbh exactly for this reason.

ok, i stand corrected, £210 is acceptable smile

I would spend any amount of money on her wellbeing, i just get a bit paranoid about getting ripped off for services in Aberdeen, or Aberdisney prices as we often say up here.
