I'd previously had rescues, but 12 years ago we got our first pup - a Vizsla. Certainly a full-time dog. It was the stunning looks as much as anything that got my attention (plus weren't many about). I got a proper job for the first time in 2012 just as he turned 10 and leaving him was the toughest part of that decision (the wife was always home and I've since gone back to being a bum).

Here's a pic after killer-attack training (or he might be carrying a plumb in his mouth - I forget which).

I put a serious amount of time into training and he is incredibly obedient. No tricks, just 100% confidence he will do what I say. Well, that used to be the case... pretty deaf now, still very strong and active. Lots of them about these days - we have a shooting syndicate and must be 4 or 5 Vizslas between 12 guns and beaters. Also seem some odd-looking ones as more people chance their arm at breeding. He's going grey now but still a handsome boy. Caught a Glis-glis yesterday and a mouse today - rolling back the years!

We chose a Eurasier / Eurasian, because I went on a website dog-chooser and input medium size, good with kids and cats, indifferent with respect to exercise and doesn't need much grooming. The last bit is blatantly wrong, but we love her! She's a modern breed which was bred from Finnish Spitz, Chinese Chow and Samoyed, so has a curly tail over her back and a blue tongue. A lovely dog, albeit a bit stubborn, and a traffic-stopper for sure!

Extremely rare over here too (UK) I believe. Cool dogs, met one the other day, he was so chilled.

Mine is quite highly strung. She hates people wearing dark clothes at night, made worse because our village has no street-lights

Well In no particular order we have Dodge A dog given to us as he was being bullied hence his what feels like permanant fear based dog aggression (been to socialisation classes and he just tries to 'defend' himself)

Poppy no idea what her breeds are but shes like a frigging rocket everyone thinks shes a puppy and then she yawns and shows the biggest teeth ive ever seen on a dog. Again given to us and other than an ability to dive on the table very well behaved

And lastly Lottie who is a Dalmatian x staffie, Shes as thick a pigmuck daft very funny to watch great with everyone but her energy can be a bit much forthe other two sometimes and we end up having to rescue her

I wanted a staffy as I consider them to be probably the daftest, softest dogs around, my ex wanted a collie as my friend had one that was an absolutely brilliant dog. That led to us getting Piran, who unfortunately passed away a month ago. His mum was a collie x springer, and his dad was possibly a staffy x rottweiler, so a proper mix, but I had an amazing 10 years with him. It also helped that he was a very cute puppy.

He didn't like my ex (and I should have listened to him and left sooner) so she wanted another dog (who turned out not to like her either and left with me), so as it was going to be 'her' dog, she wanted a Jack russell and we got Vyk (the longer haired one). When I got together with my wife, she also had a JR, Busby (the shorter haired one). I'm missing having a proper sized dog, but with a baby on the way, that will have to wait.
