I am not if this is any good but when I was shopping around I found Petplan very expensive. In the end I chose John Lewis, mainly because of the good comments being made

We have John Lewis. They have never quibbled but they are quite slow to pay in my experience. Also, we had to claim for a skin allergy last summer and the premiums have rocketed this renewal time. I'm sure they all do it, but once you've claimed for a condition you are tied to them so you are can pretty much do what they want with the premiums from then on.

Petplan don't do that, that's one of the main reasons I'm insured with them...

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Single year policies are cheap but not very good value in my opinion, minimum is a reputable company with a whole of life and minimum £7k PA for a dog I would say.

In .y experience Petplan are expensive and can be difficult if a claim is submitted.

I have my dog (Doberman) insures on a lifetime policy (all injury or disease can be renewed for life) with a 10k pot for vet fees per condition per year for £52 a month.

Not the cheapest perhaps, but I sleep easy and let him have a better life as I'm more relaxed as a result.

^^This. Our whippets are with Petplan - last year one of them had quite a serious illness requiring multiple tests/scans and medication. Petplan paid promptly with no quibbles, are really helpful on the phone (and do what they say they'll do). I was worried that his premium would shoot up on renewal, but it only went up a couple of pounds. We pay just over £50 per month for the two dogs, which I think is pretty reasonable for the level of cover. I've had dogs whose treatment has cost the annual premium or more in one go (dental ops, cancer ops, broken toes).
