Old cat - blood in urine
Discussion
Hi all,
Sqweeks carer here
Came home tonight and he had had a wee that had missed the litter tray and gone onto the tiled floor. Which let me see that the urine had blood in it.
Very strange though, the blood was not mixed with the urine, it was in a slightly smaller puddle underneath the urine puddle, obviously in a very thin (cell thick?) layer, but almost as wide as the urine puddle.
Will be taking him to the vets on Monday morning. He's not changed in behaviour at all (still old, bad hips, bad heart, bad kidneys), purrs away, choosily eats some breakfast, dinner and supper, and drinks loads of water, just as he's done for a few years now.
He was actually a bit happier when I came home this afternoon, can't help wondering if it was a gall stone he's passed?
It's hard to see blood in urine when he uses the litter tray and hits the target!
I don't know how many of his 9 lives he's used, but he's still plodding on and still happy.

Scraggy had blood in his urine for a while. It was crystals, which eventually caused a blockage. We suspect they were caused by the stress of all his other conditions.
If he's trying to go in the tray and nothing is happening don't waste time and take him to a vet right away. If he's still passing I'd stick with your current plan.

Went to the vets today.
Checked over, no lumps in kidneys or bladder, bladder was empty.
Everything else relatively OK (22 yrs old).
He got a shot of antibiotics for kidney infection just to be safe and I'll change his litter to the white clay stuff so I can spot any more blood in his urine. (both him and me hate the white clay stuff, lasts about 1/4 as long and smells far more than the wooden litter, but you can't tell the colour of the urine in the wooden litter)
His eating is getting more and more fussy again, maybe there is an infection and these antibiotics will knock it out and he'll eat normally again.
Both of us will soldier onwards
