Just got back from the vets having taken this guy as he's been a bit off:

Diagnosis is a UTI so vet recommends a wet food diet from now on but not to go on prescription. We've purposely not given much wet food up to now as we were told that it wasn't good for him.

Are there any decent options out there, or ones that are better than others?

Ours get 1/2 sachet of wet food each twice daily & Royal Canin Lite kibble.
We did have them on just the kibble, but after Lily had a couple of bouts of cystitis the vet advised to include the wet food. No further issues.
You'll probably find that there are some that yours will just turn his nose up at. Ours get Gourmet Perle sachets & their Gold tins & whilst the beef often gets a quick sniff & then the 'what, you expect us to eat this?' look the rest get eaten. The sachets do have a higher liquid content.

We do similar. Science Plan kibbles twice per day for her teeth and half a tin of wet food for fluids smile

Both mine turn their noses up at these & everything else that "good" as according to them Sheba is where it's at wink or Whiskers, or Felix (they dont get these unless we run out & it's a corner shop emergency)

They get 1/4 each morning & evening & kibble (pro plan house cat) - again, they turn their noses up at other kibble.

smile. Typical isn't it. Lucy loves Applaws but can be more fussy with Lily's but does eat it, probably one of those situations that if I persevered more with it she'd eat it more keenly. Her favourite is Whiskas Oh so Fishy!! She regurgitates a lot and she seems to do best on the Oh so Fishy food but I'm not proud that this is what I do give her!!

I feed Bob one tray of Lily's Kitchen Fish Dinner wet per day, plus 20 grams of dried Applaws salmon and chicken.

He's a good drinker anyway, but I keep lots of bowls of water around the house so he can't pass one without thinking "Oooh - a drink".

Don't keep their food and water together (or at least place another bowl down somewhere else in addition). Thirst is a weak physiological signal in cats, and often they will eat rather than drink if their bowls are too close together.

Raw meat is of course the answer if they won't eat wet food, but I do worry about the nutritional content of intensively farmed animals as opposed to the cat's natural diet of free-range, organic mice and voles.

Read labels intensively: cats are obligate carnivores and food containing carbohydrates or any kind of sugar is to be avoided like the plague. Cats are not evolved to metabolise sugar (although like kids fed exclusively on Maccy D they may refuse to eat anything else while you're weaning them off it). It will rot their teeth and predispose them to diabetes.

yes was delighted when Lily's was on offer, bought a cupboard full! The spoiled ones are being fed it til it's ALL gone! They are learning to eat it & I've had to restock with Sheba ready for the weekend (which is apt, as we are leaving them alone to get married!)

Pepi was regurgitating a lot, on that complete with fur balls, as we'd swapped them from the Pro Housecat to Applepaws, swapped them back & no problems.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Just been looking at Lily's online, which looks great. Do they do offers now and again? I wouldn't scrimp on getting decent stuff but is at the pricier end so would be great if they do.

James Wellbeloved comes recommended, looks organic etc and seems widely available from pet shops. Any experience with this? Bit cheaper than Lily's.

Natural Instinct make raw soft food for pets.
I've no idea about the cat stuff but we feed our dogs the dog stuff and it's been great.

Might be worth looking into.

Tesco have started stocking Lily's. Albeit sl different ingredients. Still very high quality but I don't think it's organic. On line sites stock it such as amazon, Viovet.

Hills, Royal Canin, Porta 21 and Applaus make good cat food. And yes, some are better than others. The cheapo ones that you can buy in supermarkets would be the same as going to McDonalds every day. The others here are pricier. You can get them at a reasonable price from Zooplus.co.uk.

But before you go ahead and order a big amount, go buy some at the local pet shop just so you know what he likes and what he does not like.

Lily's Kitchen works out at £13.55 for 16 trays via Amazon Subscribe & Save at the maximum level of discount (15%).

Don't quibble about the cost of food. It will save you money in the long run with less spent on vet bills. Teeth cleaning, etc.

Our cat has just gone right off Lily's Kitchen after just over a year the fussy bugger so now I have to try and figure out what is good that he will eat, he won't touch the Lily's from Tesco either, I have never seen such a look from him after I tried that, a proper " you want me to eat THAT? fk you mate, fk you"

If he is anything like my 3 then prep up with a few different types. Find one he likes and give it to him in the evening with something else in the mornings and he may like stick with it for a day-a week before he wants something else.
My 3 at this time like sainsburys own 'the delicious collection' tuna whole meat packets. They are eating one a day each and a single packet costs 55p with some dry food so its not been a cheap few weeks.
