Anti pull harness, what's the best?
Discussion
We have a 12 month old english pointer, he's about 30kgs and still growing. We have tired a halty harness and a Mekuti one, neither have stopped him pulling but have helped. The halty is worn out now and he can escape from the Mekuti one when he's wet, so does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next. Ideally it could be used on a long lead.
I use this one that was recommended to me by our trainer

The lead clips on at the front of the chest so every time the dog tries to pull it gets spun around. Works a treat with my dog.

I've had success with the Gentle Leader. The lead clips on below the muzzle so if the dog pulls its head goes down, ergo it can't see where its going so it stops.
I've known some dogs overcome the type that clip on at the side by getting used to walking along with their head pulled to the side as the can still see where they're going through one eye.

Best train them not to pull :-)
That may seem trite, but the danger with 'gadgets' is that the dog thinks it only need behave while wearing it.
You haven't tackled the root cause of the behaviour - at all.
You're absolutely right, but for a dog that hasn't been taught in its formative years these gadgets can be a useful training aid. They shouldn't be a permanent 'solution' though as you suggest. That may seem trite, but the danger with 'gadgets' is that the dog thinks it only need behave while wearing it.

I've used them to help with adult dogs that have never seen a lead in their life and they've been successful, once they behave on the gadget and learn associated commands they can be weaned onto a collar/lead.
