My elderly bulldog has an absolute stinker of a cold and has done for the best part of two weeks and it is getting no better.

The poor old thing has a constant dribble out of one nostril, and bouts of sneezing.

How long do I leave it before going to the vet.

Given that he gets quite panty at the vet, compromised breathing ability means avoiding this is desirable.

I've lived in a house with bulldogs all my life and I've never known one get a cold before!

Go tomorrow. Dogs really do not get colds. Please don't leave it any longer especially with his breed.

There could be several reasons and only a vet examining him will be able to start pinpointing the cause.

Unilateral discharge does not indicate a cold though, you'd expect a discharge from both nostrils. As I said, whilst they can get chest infections/ viral or bacterial infections foreign, bodies, fungal infections or tumours they don't really get colds in the way we do.

Personally I think 2 weeks is long to have left it now to see if it will get better on its own so I would definitely advise you to get him seen.

Oh sorry, forgot about this thread.

The vet came out and saw him in the car park (infection risk) which was great for the dog as he didn't get all stressed as usual.

Chest clear as a bell but nose all blocked up.

Course of antibiotics (Norotine? Novotine? Something like that) which have cleared it up remarkably.

I on the other hand feel like st!
