We had a cat (much missed) who was a bit fussy with what she ate. My wife used to gather up the leftovers (from three cats) and put them out for the birds. One day she hadn't been outside to feed the birds yet, and the cat in question was up in the window enjoying the dried up bits of cat food from the dish she found on the windowsill.

So with cats, quite often it's a context thing.

For instance, when we used to foster cats we had two pens in the garden, and a succession of cats waiting to be rehomed. Every one of them would eat everything put in front of them, and none of them were malnourished when they came to us.

You should give them a combination of wet and dry cat food..the crunchy dried stuff is good for their teeth, I was told by a vet.
Raw chicken wings are a whole lot better.

Our vet advocates raw chicken wings for teeth, but only one of our three cats liked them.

If they are used to "cat food" and minces, some can get a bit, uh, well, lacking in desire to expend energy....

We also feed duck wings, turkey necks, chicken necks, chicken carcasses. Needs to be a bit of variety or else they turn their noses up - as cats do.

They had a chew at the wingtips, pronounced it good, and said they would come back when I had cooked it.

The other cat got stuck in, but he was 6kg of attitude and greed.

Sadly can't give them cooked bones, that would not be good for them at all. Can give them the chicken stripped down (i.e. the cooked meat) which I suspect they will approve of.

Yeah, they would be fine with that (and of course can't have cooked bones), but it defeats the object of giving them something that's good for their teeth.

Daft question perhaps, but why can they not have cooked bones?

Tbh I wouldn't feel comfortable giving my cats any kind of bones, raw or cooked, I'm just curious.

Our 2 are very fussy when it comes to wet food.
They only thing I have found that they both like is Feilx Sensations in sauce.
Always order it from here as it is much cheaper than places like Pets At Home. http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/canned_cat_food...

Cooked bones can splinter. That would be a problem for them.

Why would you not give them raw? Do you think they cook the mice and birds they catch and eat? They are designed to eat raw meat and bones.

My two are so pampered, I suspect they get the dog next door to roast it for them wink

Oh I know it's completely irrational, it just wouldn't feel 'right'. Very hard to explain, and I know it makes me sound daft, but hey ho.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes perfect sense now.

The dog gets raw bones and bones from making chicken stock (which can be crumbled in the fingers).
