Really, REALLY pissed off with my old vets practice. They treated me and more importantly, my dog (Phoebe) atrociously after being customers of theirs for over a decade. New young vet - not a nice chap!

I've written to them several times and conversed over the phone and they ignore me, just keep sending me bills and adding £6 every time they do.

I'm getting nowhere with them and I consider I have a valid complaint against them. Who can I complain to? Is there an ombudsman?

Sounds like a small claims case may be brewing... line up the ducks...

Thanks for the link Bex/civic duty. Phoebe is doing well now regarding her leg, still limps really badly but it seems to be more the left leg that her previous vet misdiagnosed than the right one that has just been pinned/plated!

Unfortunately, she has just developed stomach/bowel problems due to all the drugs she has been taking, so much blood, much scared Daddy! Seems that it is just burst blood vessels in her colon, but, hellfire what a week!

I am thinking about small claims or some other sort of action as I am really pissed off with them just ignoring me. Finally got a reply today saying they will reply next week after I wrote to everyone I could find an e-mail address for!

Don't talk to me about bloody vets; one of my dogs had to be put to sleep, what a bodge job. Took 2 people 30 minutes to put in a canula which promptly came out when they tried to inject the anaesthetic. Cue more faffing about until they could finally put the old girl to sleep. Not what you need when you're breaking your heart; then they had the nerve to charge me £98. Not at all impressed and never going back to that particular bunch of idiots.

As a vet nurse I can honestly tell you the situation you described makes us feel sick to the core and prays on our minds, it is the last thing we want to happen, we try so very hard to avoid it. Sadly if a pet is very old/semi collapsed, circulatory issues, it can make finding a vein very difficult. The cannula to cone back out just compounds the whole thing (poss to do with back pressure)

It is rare but our policy is always to talk things through, explain and where possible forewarn
If they didn't do any of this I can understand why you feel as you do and I'm very sorry for what you went through

No offence bex, but there are some pretty shoddy vets out there.

More good ones though, glad to say I work with excellent vets.

Your earlier post implied there were unpaid bills and reminders, and if they are adding admin charges as well then they could be the type to play hardball. So unless you can sort it out nicely first, it's you who may be the defendant, not them!

Our vets in Pershore were superb and saved the life of our GSD a few weeks ago with emergency surgery for a twisted gut - could not be happier despite the near £2000 bill but worth every penny

Thoughts go to the OP though
