Its a "creature" and it is BIG rather than small

Castanea sativa in the wild near Brasted, Kent.

Not as much instant gratification as a puppy but incredibly pleasing to look at year after year. Considering how epic trees are I think they are sadly neglected.

Show us your PH tree pictures, great all small.

What I love are trees that look like they have flowed around something.

There's one near me that has now completely 'absorbed' the circular cast iron tree guard that was put around it to protect it when young leaving just an indented pattern in the bark that hints at what awaits a chainsaw one day.

Another where a horizontal fence pole (like a scaffold pole) now passes through the side of the tree.

And another where the exposed root looks like it has flowed around a concrete post.

You're right that most people just take trees for granted and don't take time to look at them or contemplate their beauty and age etc.

Not sure that this will catch on like the dogs thread laugh

Rubbish photo I'm afraid paperbag.

The willows on the right are about ten years old, planted when they were about 3' tall, the main woodland in the background was only about 1' when they went in but eight years later they are up to about 20' in places now, about 2000 trees, shrubs and bushes in total.
