Thanks all who have replied to this thread.
Snoop Dog is doing very well these days, he has a check up Saturday morning and for the most seems back to his normal self.
He is going a bit stir crazy stuck in all the time.
We didn't take him on our Narrow boat in the end as it has steps down into it, these are strictly a no no for him, Vets orders.
I probably wont update this, I have only been able to log on twice in the last 3 weeks and enough is enough really, I will however make the effort if anything drastically changes, I think he will be as good as new in a couple of months though.

Thought I would update this , Snoop Dog has healed and he is almost back to new, however his other back leg appears to be stiff now, the Vet and the Specialist both said to expect the other leg to do the same, but we are not sure yet, he will go back to the Vets Monday and a further examination will decide if he has strained the leg of it too needs a new knee cap, this will be a continuation of the work already performed on him, this is bad for us because we were going to spend a few weeks in Spain visiting family, now I'm not sure whether or not I want to leave a convalescing dog with relatives.
But that's something for another day.

How about taking him with you? You'd need to go in the car/ferry but if its for a few weeks I think i'd rather spend a day traveling each way than leaving him at home.

Thought about that, he would be going in a 2 door BMW though, and I don't think that would cut it, other cars a Jazz, could get him in that OK, but would you want to drive that to Spain.
Anyway, it hasn't happened yet.

If it's just you & him on the ferry the BMW could be used?

Or you could hire a car?

What's more important than your best mate after an Op?

I've took my dog on road trips in the Lambo and its not ideal space wise but with a bit of planning I've always managed okay. If anyone else is going I'd probably be looking to send them by air, with a suitcase of clothes. And I'd drive with the dog & whatever I could fit in the car.

Its only a day... if the choice was drive in the Jazz, don't go at all, or go but leave the dog, then its an easy choice. Jazz every time for me smile

I would seek the orthopaedic vets advice on this. I wouldn't risk a trip abroad on a recuperating patient incase of any complications. I would see if it safer to delay the op until your return.

I agree. Sods law says if anything will go wrong it'll happen when you're out of the country and leaving pets with relatives/friends!

The vet wanted to delay the op, the specialist didn't, the plus side is he will have three and a half weeks to heal before we go, that is the most important time, the vet also said they would provide pills to sedate him, he is not going to Spain, as I stated earlier it isn't an option, TBH I spend my working life driving around Europe so I'm not doing it in my leisure time, I also don't think he would enjoy the trip, he isn't a car lover, then there is the heat, its around 38 degrees where we go, plus my Dad has three dogs of his own, he cant mix with other dogs until he is healed.
It is looking like he will stay with friends who run a farm, the lady of the house is a retired nurse so is responsible and knows how to administer meds etc, there is always someone in so he wont be left alone and the Vets dealing with him is 10 minutes away, we will leave the Jazz so they can take him if necessary.
Job Jobbed.

Update. Snoop Dog has had his op, for some reason the vets kept I'm overnight which saved the wife a lot of stress. Next morning he came home, he just seems a lot more with it this time, he is walking well on it and seems to have skipped a week in recovery, I.E he has really got over this one well.

This his the boy, first morning back, hopefully he can stay away from the vets now as he has been poked ,prodded and messed with enough now.

So glad he has had a second successful op, also glad for your wife (and him) that they decided to keep him in for the night this time. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the kind comments, he is doing really well, its just taken me 4 pieces of boiled ham to get his meds in him this morning, part of me was thinking your spitting them out to get more ham biggrin
Seriously though, he is doing well and within a few months hopefully can get back to being a dog again.

I will thanks Kat, he eats them in his slow sort of way, then the pills drop out the side of his mouth, the wife has it down to a fine art now.

Yeah, the cats do that too

Using 'sticky' food helps

Never had a problem getting them into the dogs when we had them, greedy little buggers laugh just out it in their food & it was wolfed down

Quick update, he is doing really well, the only downside is dogs aren't self aware, he wants to play all the time.
He is currently lay on the sofa with his head on me, snoring his head off.
