So having had the not inconsiderable trauma of losing Dexter the Lhasa Also on a country walk early this morning (he's back now though thank goodness) I've been looking at GPS collar systems and getting increasingly confused by the plethora of options available.

Does anyone use one and do you have any recommendations?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware these systems store the movements of your pet rather than transmitting them. You have to plug the device into your computer and upload the data to the website of the device to get it plotted onto a map. I'm not aware of a device that gives you live tracking while it's still attached to the roaming pet.

I see some that are sim enabled with subs that will do this real time like this one:

Interesting - I wasn't aware of that. Possibly too large and heavy for my cats though.

Nor was I - it was one of those "there must be something"...type searches prompted by his temporary departure

Pawtrax does; it contains a SIM card and transmits location info via GPRS (sic, not GPS) to a phone app.

See several old PH threads on this and similar devices.

Thanks, I'd seen that one too in my searches earlier.

I did search but it didn't show up any previous threads that seemed relevant!

The only one personally recommended to me as being any good has been this: http://www.traxfamily.com/shop.html

Just waiting for it to be released in the UK, although you can buy it and pay in Euros and it'll still work over here.

So I'm thinking that Trax looks good for our needs, but I decided to do some checking on their Forum and saw this, posted by Tax in mid May frown:

Hello
Thanks for your message and interest in Trax!
We are not able to ship Trax to the UK at the moment but will soon launch it there together with a partner. We don't have a date yet, but we can let you know once it is available there, if you want us to.
Kind regards

Better late than never I say...

Have signed up for one of these: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1889757235/po...

...prompted by the little bludger running off into a Pheasant Covert and disappearing for over an hour just before Xmas.
