We seem to have an infestation of large flying beetles I the garden this evening. Never seen anything like it - there are scores of them. I could live & let live but our dog is intent on eating as many as possible, and we're spending the evening in the garden, so it's difficult to stop him.

Anyone know what they are and whether they're dangerous to canines?

Looks like a small cockchafer.

Thanks - Google seems to concur, and suggests that they are eaten as a delicacy elsewhere in Europe, so I guess the dog will survive!
