The Op said Vixen, so I'm following that. It is a bit sexist that we are all assuming that based on the noise, as Males do squeal, but not really this time of year. Lets just not let the rampant feminists that are complaining about misogyny and sexism on PH in The Lounge find out wink

Oh and sorry for referring to the fox as an it. I wasn't sure if it'd been established if it were a male or female. I'm assuming the male fox does not make these sounds then?
It's definitely a vixen as this is the noise she makes..

Scares the crap out of you if it happens by surprise about 20 yards away in the middle of the night!

Oh I saw that thread and chose not to get involved!I still like the door to be opened for me biggrin
I hate it when pet owners refer to the pets as it and, whilst not quite the same I felt bad when I realised I'd done it here!

I'm wth Ali all the way here - I'd also be trying to be friends with it...but then I'm convinced everything wants to be my friend really. Foxes are lovely smile

The behaviour you describe does generally sound like it wants to be friends with your dahgs. It may well recognise your group if it was raised where you are and if it doesn't have any others around maybe it's a bit confused....? Though don't see any reason why them playing together would be an issue if it happened. Would be intrigued if fox then wanted to come to your house - seems unlikely to me - I have no foxes living with me dammit and they've all been sent an open invitation wink

Me too smile

there's photos of Chilli playing with the Cubs on my FB somewhere

We hear noises at the front door one night, but it was snowing and very late so we ignored it as anyone that knew/needed us would just ring the bell.

Saw the Badgers prints in the snow the next morning & felt really guilty smile

The best thing for all concerned is to shoot the fox I'm afraid. They really are horrors.

I've got one making a royal mess of my garden at the moment. Crapping everywhere, trying to get at the chickens, ruining anything that's left out. If I had a shotgun, it would be in fox heaven, raiding all the bins it could.

You're in it's home territory, dangling food in front of it teasingly - what do you expect?

The best thing is not to make daft comments. It is obvious the opening poster isn't seeking advice on how to destroy the fox so why say such a thing. Just because you have a 'nuisance' fox doesn't mean they all are. we have two round by us, they never cause a bother to the homeowners.

No that's not true. It has moved onto MY home territory and is making it an unhygienic place for me, my family and my pets. Why should it be allowed to stay?

Fair enough - badly chosen thread to vent on perhaps.

I've never had a fox around that wasn't a nuisance however.

Really? How old is your house? 1000's of years old?

I very much doubt it biggrin They were here before we started building houses you see, so you ARE living in the Foxes territory biggrin

Not likely, there are many many folk walking their dahgs around at 2:30am wink

I am liking this thread and look forward to updates.

O/T my friend's adopted foxlet a few years ago that unfortunately didn't survive:

Possibly wink

Our gardens all have strong school perimeter fencing which helps (down the road they keep chickens) and plenty of overgrown grassland for them to find food in so I doubt they have much need to encroach our gardens. Do see them running around the roads at 2 in the morning! Though on saying that haven't seen so much of them this year.

I'd guess the fox is about 2.

And your point IS what, exactly?

They are WILD animals, like (most of) the rest of the wild animals in the UK, they had generation upon generation living here a hell of a lot longer than we have been building houses.

We are the ones living in their territory, not them in ours. We just taunt them with food they can't get to, having taken their food sources away by building on the & land and reducing the wild life population

I completely disagree and find that argument ludicrous I'm afraid. I own the land, not the fox and despite being an animal lover, I take a realistic view on vermin and don't consider their ancestral 'rights'!

However, I can't see us agreeing somehow so will leave it there.
