Dogs traveling into the continent form the UK, best way...

Hi mike. In short yes. He's not quite 100% fixed and never will be but he's just about as good a result as we could have hoped for operation removed a small amount of bone you wouldn't be able to notice unless you studied him carefully. Just no tennis balls any more we dare not risk it.

I might be taking Logan down to Spain will be phoning about the ferry but either way I still have a long drive down to Alicante.
I will be on my own so the question is how dog friendly are Spanish/ French service stations obviously being on my own he will be a big consideration. August so leaving him in the car even for minutes is a no no.
The little car parks with just toilets will be fine. I suppose i could just get a sarnie in the petrol stations when I buy fuel.
Anybody took a dog on their own?
We send dogs through there all the time (mostly in the other direction though). If they're under control and on a lead, its no real problem. You won't be able to go in the restaurant areas but you (generally, not always) will be able to stop in the shop areas and buy sandwiches, wraps, drinks or whatever. A dog won't explode if you leave it in a car, even in August. Put the windows down a bit, park within view and just go in the shop , purchase what you need and come straight back out and it will be absolutely fine. It won't take more than a few mins to pop in and out during non busy times. They're used to the weather here... most of the service stations will have covered areas you can park in also.
Thanks. I'm all sorted just about breakdown including pet relocation, passports etc. I need to move one hospital appointment if I can. I've just realised though I that I return from a long period of sickness with a tan. Not sure if that's going to be a problem.
Had cold feet about driving all that way myself I haven't been told not to drive but it's probably not a good idea. Other half is seeing if she can get time off and do most of the driving. Or I might fly..,
If I don't go in a few days I'll definitely take him in October and do plenty of pics on the way.

Calaise to Alicante is 15 hours or so. One long day driving, or two leisurely ones with an overnight stop. Its easy to find a dog friendly hotel to break it up a bit if needed. Its not exactly fun but its certainly doable on your own with a dog.
I'd rather do the journey with a dog than a child or a mrs
Both ...It will be interesting I was planning to take him earlier in the year but couldn't. To a misunderstanding on my part regarding the passport.
Did it in 17 hours last time. This time I will probably take 3 days and lots of stops if I go. No medical restrictions other than fatigue that I will have to deal with but as I haven't really moved in three weeks I'm not sure what it is I can do. I do feel up to it though. I've been signed off for another three weeks and I'm just fed up of being in the house.

It isn't the driving time or miles that's The problem driven it before. its my current condition and whether I'm physically up to it.
I did two hour stints to accommodate fatigue (except from UK as Eurotunnel time was a rest). And only drive 6 hours per day - had hotels booked in advance (dog friendly ones so the dog could stay in the room with us).So start in the Uk, hour of driving, then two hours in France and stop at services. Walk dog. Then another two hours driving and stop at services for lunch, and walk dog. Then a further two hours of driving to hotel. Walk dog....Dinner, bed. Up next morning, walk dog, drive two hours to services, walk dog. Drive another two hours, lunch and walk dog. Drive another two hours to hotel.
Frequent request for us and the dog meant we were not tired and the dog was not upset either. In fact she slept a fair bit.
