Open Minded Discussion - Heath care costs

My Jimmy was never just a dog and if there had been a definite cure (there was none) for what he had what he had I would have broken credit cards to pay for him. He was insured but at the the time I did not know if they would pay, I did not hesitate £2,100 went on the credit card.
His physio/hydro was not covered on insurance. I paid £40-80/wk for many weeks to hel his muscle strength.
Losing him was devastating for us, still hurts 2yrs on even though we have our lovely Bryn, I will always have wished I could have saved Jimmy.
I understand people have different viewpoints in what they may be prepared to pay but I hate it when the reason given is that 'it's just a dog/cat/rabbit etc. We take them into our lives, they rely on us, they deserve more than that description of them.
Re: the morals of spending high amounts on our pets, I don't think it is morally wrong as long as first and foremost the pets qol is considered.
People spend thousands on.luxury goods, holidays, jewellery, cars etc and no really questions the morals of that. They may called extravagant/flamboyant but most people suggest if it is their money they can spend it how they want. Most valuable items are insured and no thinks twice if an insurance claim.is put in for a valuable item so why a loved four legged friend.

Same when we found out Macavity had metastatic cancer everywhere. But there was nothing anyone could have done. bexVN said:

Yep you can get an MRI scan, privately, for £245.00 (see http://www.vistadiagnostics.co.uk/mri_scan_cost.ht... This is not a cowboy outfit) NHS tariff is more like £800 (which is interesting in itself)
A general anaesthetic £125.00 (£300 NHS tariff)
£1500 sounds rather more reasonable than £4500! [i accept this is animal not human but it cant be THAT different]

Vet insurance jobs are getting like motoring insurance jobs..........A right royal rip off.
Some prices seem higher than you would expect, I am still wondering if the above quote doesn't include other investigations tbh but your broad spectrum view is not accurate and unfair, bexVN said:
